iaHoboken, NJ (April 20) – In Saturday afternoon MAC Freedom doubleheader action, the FDU-Florham Softball team (15-13, 4-5 MAC Freedom) swept the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks (14-16, 6-6 MAC Freedom) into the pond in both games by scores of 6-4 and 3-0.
Game 1:
FDU-Florham saw their first run scored in the top of the first inning when
Abigail Rodriguez (Woodbridge, NJ) sent the ball up the middle for the Devils' first RBI of the day.
Stevens was no match for the Devils defense as the Ducks were unable to add any runs in the first three innings. Senior
Kristen Tigar (Hazlet, NJ) played the ball just behind the third baseman to allow the runner on third to score the Devils' second run of the game.
Before the third inning came to a close,
Rodriguez sent the ball over the fence for a 2-run homer and a 4-0 lead on Stevens.
The Ducks were able to find their first run of the game with an RBI field choice and then added an RBI single to left field. Stevens scored the tying runs off a Devils throwing error to end the third inning with a 4-4 score.
Until the seventh inning occurred, FDU-Florham's bats cooled off for only three hits in three innings but capitalized their two in the seventh inning with a 2-run homer from
Rodriguez for the winning runs of game one, 6-4.
Seen in the circle for the entirety of game one was
Kelly Cornog (Newtown Square, PA) (10-7) as she accounted for the Ducks striking out 6 times while facing a total of 34 batters on 109 pitches. Stevens' Kyra Fischer (8-10) received the loss after throwing 101 pitches with 3 strikeouts.
Game 2:
Neither team was able to record a run in the first inning, but Stevens was able to connect with the ball for a single to left field. FDU-Florham found their first hit of game two in the top of the second inning when
Rodriguez sent the ball toward the shortstop for a single.
In the top of the third inning, the Devils started producing on the offensive end starting with
Victoria Fantozzi (Hillsborough, NJ) reaching first on a throwing error by the shortstop. Two batters later,
Heather Priante (Howell, NJ) introduced the bat to the ball and sent it over the outfield fence for the Devils' second two-run homer of the day, 2-0.
Stevens found another hit in the bottom of the fourth inning but did not bring the runner home for the scoreboard to change. FDU-Florham found another two hits in the top of the fifth inning and was able to expand their lead after first-year
Riley Signor (Media, Pa) placed the ball out in left field for an RBI single.
The Ducks did have another four hits in the reaming innings but still were unable to bring any of their runners in and past the Devils' defense, therefore awarding FDU-Florham the 3-0 win in game two.

Bianca DiSanto (Colonia, NJ) (1-0) who recorded her first win of the season after striking out three Ducks on 82 pitches. For Stevens, Ella Tozduman (3-3) received the loss after striking out two Devils and throwing 78 pitches.
