Women’s Lacrosse Secures Win Against King’s. 21-10

Wilkes-Barre, PA  (April 17) – The FDU-Florham Women's Lacrosse (4-7, 1-3 MAC FREEDOM)  team traveled to MAC Freedom opponent King's (1-13, 0-5 MAC FREEDOM) on Wednesday where they secured their first MAC Freedom Conference win of the season, 21-10.
 
Julianna Medina  (Linwood, NJ) led the Devils with eight points consisting of seven goals and one assist.  Abigail Fortemps  (Denville, NJ) followed with two goals and one assist. Alison Kozik(Ellington, CT) got the win defending the cage and making 10 saves.
 
Kyleigh Dunworth led the Monarchs with one goal and two assists. Sidney Bush got the loss in the net saving 10 out of 28 shots.
 
King's started with a goal from Emilee Schultz two minutes into the game to take an early 1-0 lead. A foul from King's put Jenna Ranney (Forest Hills, MD) on the 8-meter arc as she tied the game at the 5:30 mark. The Monarchs and the Devils exchanged goals for the remainder of the first quarter as they ended at a 3-3 standoff. FDU saw goals from Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ) and Medina during the exchange.  
 
The Devils were able to pull away in the second quarter as they scored four unanswered goals to start. Ranney started the Devils off while Ashton and Medina followed to make the score 7-3 at the 8:49 mark. Shortly after, King's scored two goals to cut their deficit in half and make it a 7-4 game. Medina found the back of the net at the 5:22 mark with her fourth goal of the night which extended the Devils lead 8-4. It was Claudia Zappia (South Brunswick, NJ) who scored two back-to-back goals less than a minute apart to put the Devils farther in the lead. With 3:30 remaining in the second quarter, Ashton scored off a pass from Fortemps to make the score 11-5. Fortemps followed that assist with a goal 20 seconds later to extend the Devils lead once again. At the 2:55 mark, another foul from King's put Ranney on the 8-meter arc that resulted in a goal. The Devils ended the half with a goal from Ashton with 30 seconds remaining which saw the Devils going into halftime with a 14-5 lead.
 
Medina got the ball rolling for the Devils in the third quarter as she scored two unanswered goals to extend the Devils lead 16-5. FDU- Florham was able to find the back of the net twice more as Ranney and Zappia each scored a goal to make the score 18-5. King's was able to score with three seconds remaining in the quarter but still went into the fourth quarter at an 18-6 deficit.
 
King's started the fourth quarter with two back-to-back goals to cut their deficit to 18-8. The Devils and the Monarchs exchanged goals for the remainder of the game, but the Devils got the last word as Medina found the back of the net off a pass from Ashton with 14 seconds remaining. This saw the Devils securing their first MAC Freedom conference win, 21-10.
 
 
As a team, FDU-Florham took 42 shots, 32 ground balls, and 19 draw controls. The Devils also went 13-15 on clear attempts.
 
King's totaled 20 shots on goal, 26 ground balls, and 14 draw controls.
 
FDU-Florham will return home to compete against MAC Freedom opponent Delaware Valley for their Senior Day on Saturday, April 20 at 1:00 pm.
