Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women’s Lacrosse Upended By #13 Stevens, 20-7

Madison, NJ  (April 13) – The FDU-Florham Women's Lacrosse (3-7, 0-3 MAC FREEDOM)  team competed against MAC Freedom opponent #13 Stevens (10-2, 3-0 MAC FREEDOM)) on Saturday afternoon where they were handed a  20-7 loss.  
 
Alexis Ashton  (Blairstown, NJ) led the Devils with five points consisting of four goals and one assist.  Jenna Ranney  (Forest Hills, MD) followed with one goal. Alison Kozik(Ellington, CT) got the loss in the cage for the Devils making nine saves.
 
Zoe Cook led the Ducks with four goals and two assists. Felicity Heilferty got the win in the net saving 2 out of 6 shots.
 
The Ducks came out on fire as they scored three back-to-back goals quickly into the game to make it 3-0. The Ashton stopped that run at the 8:36 mark to cut their deficit 3-1. However, Stevens ended the first quarter by scoring four more unanswered goals to make it a 7-1 game. Both teams exchanged goals at the beginning of the second half which made the score 9-3. FDU saw goals from Claudia Zappia (South Brunswick, NJ) and Ranney during that exchange. Shortly after, Stevens was able to capitalize on a man-up situation and score at the 2:58 mark. The Ducks scored one more before Ashton recorded her second goal of the night with 53 seconds remaining.  This saw the Devils going into halftime at an 11-4 deficit.
 
The Ducks began the third quarter by scoring five unanswered goals to make the score 16-4. It was Ashton who put a stop to that run at the 5:03 mark off a pass from Abigail Fortemps (Denville, NJ). Shortly after, Julianna Medina (Linwood, NJ) found the back of the net to make it a 16-6 game. Stevens was able to score one more time before the end of the quarter to extend their lead 17-6. The Devils were outscored 3-1 in the fourth quarter as Ashton was the only Devil to score. This ultimately led to the Stevens handing Fairleigh Dickinson a 20-7 loss.
 
As a team, FDU-Florham took 16 shots, 17 ground balls, and 10 draw controls.
 
Stevens totaled 30 shots on goal, 18 ground balls, and 21 draw controls. The Ducks also went 7-7 on clear attempts.
 
FDU-Florham's next match up will be against MAC Freedom Opponent Wilke-Barre, PA on Wednesday, April 17 at 6:00 pm.
