Center Valley, PA (April 10) – The FDU-Florham Women's Lacrosse (3-6, 0-2 MAC FREEDOM) team traveled to MAC Freedom opponent DeSales ((9-2, 2-0 MAC FREEDOM)) on Wednesday night where they ultimately lost 14-10.
Jenna Ranney(Forest Hill, MD) led the Devils with five points consisting of two goals and three assists.
Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ) followed with three goals and one assist.
Alison Kozik(Ellington, CT) got the loss in the cage for the Devils making 13 saves.
Jess Brey led the Bulldogs with four goals and two assists. Michaela Regan got the win in the net saving 9 out of 10 shots.
The Bulldogs came out with the first goal of the game after a free-position attempt, but four minutes later,
Julianna Medina (Linwood, NJ) tied the game back up scoring off a free position shot to make the score 1-1. Shortly after, Meagan Landers of DeSales took back the lead with a goal. However, the Devis did not let that stop them as they went on to score three unanswered goals to end the quarter. This run included a goal from Ranney and two Ashton which saw FDU ending the first quarter with a 4-2 lead.
Claudia Zappia (South Brunswick, NJ) started the second quarter for the Devils, as she was able to find the back of the net from a pass off Ranney. DeSales answered right back as they closed their deficit to one at the 8:54 mark after scoring two goals. Shortly after, Ranney extended the Devil's lead off a pass from Zappia with 8:38 remaining to make the score 6-4. The Bulldogs stepped up after three back-to-back goals to take the lead 7-6. Both teams went back and forth for the remainder of the quarter, as they both saw two goals each. The Devils saw one goal from Ashton and one from
Abigail Fortemps (Denville, NJ) which saw FDU and DeSales tied 8-8 going into halftime.
DeSales quickly took back the lead in the third quarter as they scored two unanswered goals to start the second half and make the score 10-8. The teams went on exchanged shots however none were successful until Medina ripped a shot and found the back of the net at the 7:28 mark. Less than a minute later DeSales notched another on the night to make it a 11-9 game. Medina once again fought back to cut the Devils deficit to one with 3:44 remaining in the quarter. However, the Bulldogs finished off the quarter scoring two unanswered goals to extend their lead 12-10 going into the fourth quarter. Fairleigh Dickinson was scoreless for the rest of the game, and DeSales went on to score two more goals to make the final score 14-10.
As a team FDU-Florham took 25 shots with 19 being on goal, 14 ground balls, and 14 draw controls. The Devils also went 14-19 on clear attempts.
DeSales totaled 27 shots on goal, 24 ground balls, and 13 draw controls.
FDU-Florham continues conference action on Saturday, April 13
th where they will compete against Stevens at home. This game will be dedicated to Morgan's Message as they will be creating awareness for student-athletes and mental health.
