Baseball Suffers Doubleheader Defeat Against Arcadia

Madison, N.J. (March 24) –The FDU-Florham baseball team (7-12, 2-4 MAC Free) suffered defeats in both games of their MAC Freedom doubleheader against Arcadia, 5-0 in seven innings and 14-1 in nine innings on Saturday afternoon. The Knights completed the series sweep today after winning their single game matchup on Friday, 20-6

Game One

A majority of the Knights runs in game one, came right out of the gate when they scored three runs to take the early 3-0 lead. Those runs were scored on a ground out RBI and a two-RBI single up the middle.

A back-and-forth defensive showing, only saw two more runs get scored down the stretch, both of them from Arcadia with one run being scored in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly to right field and one in the sixth on an RBI single up the middle.

The Devils were held to just three hits in game one, coming off the bats of John Rolli (Long Valley, N.J.), Brody Donovan (South Plainfield, N.J.) and Jack Giovenco (Allentown).

Chris Kaponis (Burlington Twp., N.J.) suffered his first loss of the season when he pitched six innings and allowed five runs (two earned) on six hits and struck out three batters.

Game Two

After a scoreless first inning, The Knights got on the board in the second inning on a fielder's choice RBI that gave them a 1-0 lead. A three-run top of the fourth extended the Arcadia lead to 4-0 and then they exploded for six runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a commanding 10-0 edge.

The only run for the Devils on the day was scored in the bottom of the sixth frame. Rolli walked on his at bat and advanced to second on a single to right center by Matt Aber (Basking Ridge, N.J.). A wild pitch moved both men up a base with Rolli scoring during the next action when he made it to the plate on an RBI single through the left side by Donovan.

Arcadia closed out the game with four more runs in the top of the ninth to take the 14-1 win and complete the conference series sweep.

FDU-Florham stays home at Vincent J. and Lenda F. Naimoli Ballpark for non-conference action against Baruch. The game will be played in recognition of the mental health awareness in collaboration with The Hidden Opponent. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00pm.
