Madison, NJ (March 14) – The FDU-Florham Women's Lacrosse (2-3) team put up a fight on Robert T. Shields Field, but unfortunately lost to Moravian 18-17 in overtime.
Julianna Medina (Linwood, NJ) led the Devils tallying a total of eight points with seven goals and one assist.
Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ) followed accumulating six points that included five goals.
Alison Kozik(Ellington, CT) got the loss in net totaling eight saves.
Jackie Salvatore led the way for the Greyhounds with four goals and two assists. Kayla Graef got the win in the net saving 6 of 23 shots faced.
The Devils took the early 3-0 lead in the first quarter at the 7:17 mark after two back-to-back goals from Medina and one from Ashton. Moravian answered right back scoring two goals within a minute of each other at the 6:26 mark. Shortly after, the Devils added to their lead after
Jenna Ranney (Forest Hill, MD) and Ashton scored to make the score 5-2. The Greyhounds ended the first quarter scoring a goal with 1:24 remaining, but the FDU still led 5-3.
Medina and
Madison Ballesteros (Parsippany, NJ) opened the second quarter scoring a combined three goals to extend the Devils lead to 8-3. Moravian was able to capitalize off a free position shot to make the score 8-4 with 7:35 remaining in the half. The Devils lead was extended once again, this time by
Abigail Fortemps (Denville, NJ) to make the score 9-4 with 1:28 remaining. The Greyhounds ended the scoring in the first half as they scored two unanswered goals. This still saw the Devils going into halftime with a 9-6 lead.
Moravian came out of halftime on fire as they scored three back-to-back goals to tie the game 9-9 at the 10:29 mark. But Medina and Ballesteros didn't let that stop the Devils as they went on to take back the lead 11-9. Both teams began to exchange goals until the Greyhounds took their first lead of the night with 1:52 remaining in the third quarter to make the score 13-12. Shortly after, Medina tied the game off a man-up opportunity. However, Moravian scored with eight seconds left to take back the lead 14-13.
Fairleigh Dickinson was able to tie the contest with 8:54 remaining with goals from
Claudia Zappia (South Brunswick, NJ) and Ashton. Both teams went back and forth in goals for the remainder of the quarter as the Devils saw more goals from Medina and Ashton. Ashton was able to take back the lead, 17-16, with a goal at the 4:55 mark. However, Moravian scored the game-tying goal with 3:49 remaining in the game. This saw the contest go into overtime where FDU ultimately lost the game 18-17 after a Greyhound goal 40 seconds into the first overtime period.
As a team, FDU-Florham took 30 shots, 11 ground balls, and 17 draw controls. The Devils also went 14-16 on clear attempts.
Drew totaled 42 shots, 13 ground balls, and 22 draw controls. The Greyhounds went 10-10 on clear attempts
FDU-Florham travels to Eastern Connecticut State University for their next contest against on Saturday, March 23 at 4 pm.
