Hackettstown, NJ (March 20) – In a non-conference visit to Centenary University (10-4), the FDU-Florham Softball team (6-6) was able to play five innings of game one and suffered a 6-0 loss, as the weather called the remaining innings as well as the second game of the doubleheader.
Despite not being able to see any Devils cross home plate, they were able to record four hits. The first two hits came in the first inning as
Kylee Berg (Bordentown, NJ) sent the ball to left field for a single. Two batters later,
Abigail Rodriguez (Woodbridge, NJ) returned the ball straight to the pitcher for another single.
In the bottom of the first, Centenary was able to add their first two runs to the board as well as two hits of their own.
The defense played a part in the second inning as neither team scored, but FDU-Florham saw their third hit come from
Kristen Tigar (Hazlet, NJ) as she found a spot for the ball in left field to make it to first.
Giving the Devils their final offensive push of the day was
Kacie Centineo (Waldwick, NJ) as she hit the ball in the direction of the center fielder for a single. The Cyclones added their final four runs of the game in the third and fourth inning before the game was called in the bottom of the fifth due to the weather. Game two was also forgone due to the weather.
Pitching the circle was
Kelly Cornog (Newtown Square, PA) (4-5) as she attempted to spin up the Cyclones through four innings, and was able to strike out one batter. Jaelynn Miller (9-0) recorded the win for Centenary as she threw eight strikeouts while twenty batters, in five innings.
FDU-Florham next game will open MAC Freedom play as they are set to travel to Arcadia on Saturday, March 23 for a doubleheader at 1pm and 3pm.
