Montclair, NJ (March 2) – The FDU-Florham (0-1) women's lacrosse team dropped their season opener against Montclair State (1-0) on Saturday afternoon.
Julianna Medina (Linwood, NJ) led the Devils during the matchup as she had one goal and one assist.
Anacapri Slack (Voorehees, NJ) led the team defensively causing three turnovers for the Devils.
Alison Kozik (Ellington, CT) notched 10 saves in the cage during the loss.
Montclair was led by Kaeley Sek and Norah Monaghan as they both earned hat tricks to put the Red Hawks on top. Joey Grotkopf got the win saving nine of 11 shots on goal.
Montclair took the early at the 10:12 mark with Cara McCartney scoring the first goal of the game. The Devils then fell to a 5-0 deficit until Medina scored with 7:11 left in the first half off a pass from
Claudia Zappia (South Brunswick, NJ). The Red Hawks went on to score three more goals to make the score 8-1 at halftime.
Montclair continued to attack in the second half as they went on to score five unanswered goals. This run was stopped with 16 seconds left in the game after
Jenna Ranney (Forest Hill, MD) caught a pass from Medina for the goal. Unfortunately, the Devils saw themselves dropping to Montclair 13-2
The Devils were outshot by the Red Hawks 23-11. They also had more draw controls with nine compared to the Devils' eight. FDU also went 12-21 for clear attempts while Montclair successfully cleared 17 out of 19 attempts.
The Devils return home on Saturday, March 9 to compete In a non-conference match-up against Mount Saint Mary College (NY).
