Women’s Lacrosse Falls To Drew, 26-15

Madison, NJ (March 14) – The FDU-Florham Women's Lacrosse (2-2) team traveled down Madison Avenue where they ultimately fell to Drew University 26-15 on Thursday night.
 
Claudia Zappia (South Brunswick, NJ) led the Devils tallying a total of five points with four goals and one assist. Jenna Ranney (Foreest Hill, MD) followed accumulating four points that included four goals. Alison Kozik(Ellington, CT) got the loss in net totaling 12 saves.
 
Lizzy Barret led the way for the Rangers with six goals and two assists. Paige Shaw got the win in the net saving 6 of 21 shots faced.
 
The Devils took the early lead after Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ) ripped a shot off a pass from Abigail Fortemps (Denville, NJ). Ranney followed two minutes later scoring at the 12:55 mark to put the Devils at a 2-0 advantage. Later in the quarter, Ranney capitalized off a free position shot to extend their lead 3-1 with 11 minutes remaining in the first quarter. Drew scored 30 seconds later, but Madison Ballesteros (Parsippany, NJ) answered right back pushing the Devils to a 4-2 lead. However, the Rangers had other plans as they went on to score four unanswered goals to take the lead 4-6. At the 5:36 minute mark, Fortemps cut the Devils deficit to one as she scored her first career goal and made the score 6-5. With 46 seconds left, Ashton tied the game 6-6, but after a foul on FDU Drew was able to get one more goal off before the quarter ended, which saw the Devils going into the second quarter down, 7-6.
 
Ballesteros opened the second quarter off with a goal at the 11:42 mark that tied the game 7-7.  The Rangers were able to pull away and score three back-to-back goals to make the score 7-10. But, in an attempt to catch up, Julianna Medina (Linwood, NJ) scored late in the quarter to cut the deficit to two points. However, Drew outscored FDU 5-2 in the second quarter and the Devils went into halftime down 12-8.
 
As the second half progressed the Rangers were able to pull away from FDU as they scored eight goals in the third quarter and six goals in the fourth. However, the Devils did not let that stop them as they still pushed through and saw more goals from Anacapri Slack (Vorhees, NJ), Zappia, and Ranney. Drew outscored Fairleigh Dickinson 14-6 in the second quarter and the Devils ultimately fell to the Rangers 26-15.
 
 
As a team, FDU-Florham took 21 shots, 11 ground balls, and 21 draw controls. The Devils also went 13-17 on clear attempts.
 
Drew totaled 38 shots on goal, 13 ground balls, and 23 draw controls.
 
FDU-Florham competes at home for their next contest against Moravian University on Wednesday, March 20 at 4 pm.
