Hartford, Conn (March 12) – FDU-Florham Junior
Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, N.J.) surpassed the 100-goal mark for her career today at 11:17 in the third quarter during the Devils 14-10 victory at Hartford.
She finished with 5 on the day while
Jenna Ranney (Forest Hill, Md.) led the team today in points with four goals and two assists.
Alison Kozik(Ellington, CT) got the win as she defended the cage totaling 13 saves.
Madison Olmstead led the way for the Hawks with four goals and two assists. Hanna Ramsey got the loss in the net saving 13 of 27 shots faced.
The Devils took the early lead scoring off two separate free-position shots from
Madison Ballesteros (Parsippany, NJ) and Ranney. However, they were outscored in the rest of the first quarter as Hartford went on to score five unanswered goals making the score 5-2 at the end of the first quarter.
FDU was able to capitalize on another free position attempt 45 seconds into the second quarter as
Julianna Medina (Linwood, NJ) scored to make the score 5-3. However, shortly after, Hartford collected another goal off a free-position opportunity as well.
Claudia Zappia (South Brunswick, NJ) answered right off a pass from Ranney to make the score 6-4 at the 11:22 mark. Medina was able to notch another goal closing the deficit to one point. However, with 43 seconds left in the first half Hartford scored which saw the Devils going into halftime down 7-5.
The Hawks opened the third quarter with the first goal, but the Devils had other plans as they went on to score four unanswered goals and take the lead, 9-8. The team saw more goals from Zappia, Ranney, and Ashton. Hartford quickly tied the game 9-9, but Ashton took control and scored two more back-to-back goals to make the score 11-9 at the and of the third quarter.
Ranney started the fourth quarter for Fairleigh Dickinson scoring her third goal of the day off a pass from Zappia with 13:25 remaining in the game. Ashton and Ranney continued to battle and score two more goals for the Devils. With 2:58 left in the contest, Hartford scored the final goal of the game. This saw the Devils topping the Hawks, 14-10.
As a team FDU-Florham took 32 shots, 13 ground balls, and 11 draw controls. The Devils also went 16-20 on clear attempts.
Hartford totaled 30 shots on goal, 15 ground balls, and 14 draw controls.
FDU-Florham travels down the road to compete against Drew University for their next contest on Thursday, March 14 at 4:00 pm.
