Defense Helps DeSales Defeat Women's Basketball, 92-42

Center Valley, PA (February 3) – The DeSales Bulldogs proved their defense against the FDU-Florham Women's Basketball team, as they suffered a 92-42 MAC Freedom loss, In Saturday afternoon action.

FDU-Florham (10-10, 3-7 MAC Freedom) moves to an overall .500 record this season after today's loss. For the Devils, MAC Freedom leading scorer, Neysa Aguilar (Middlesex, NJ), was able to notch 11 points against the Bulldogs' defense. First year, Christina Centeno (Bayonne, NJ) also added 10 points and 5 rebounds to the Devils offensive efforts.
 
DeSales (19-2, 10-0 MAC Freedom) was able to remain undefeated in the MAC Freedom play  with the help of 15 points and 3 rebounds from Morgan Sterner.

DeSales set the tone early on their home court with a three-point field goal, 20 seconds into the game. Aguilar was able to secure the Devils' first points on their second possession, but was not able to help take the lead from the Bulldogs, as they ended the quarter with a score of 16-9.
 
The Bulldogs were able to jump out to an even further lead during the start of the second quarter as the score read 35-17 at the 4:13 timestamp. Centeno was able to close the half for the Devils with a made three-pointer, before heading into the locker room, 20-37.
 
FDU-Florham gave its best effort to start the half but fell short as DeSales increased their lead by 29 points after a fast break layup, halfway through the third quarter. The Devils found a small scoring spurt, started by Centeno and Gabrielle Walker (Old Bridge, NJ), but were not able to close the gap entirely as the quarter ended by a score of 62-36.
 
It was DeSales who was turning up the heat, as they outscored the Devils 30-6 in the final quarter. Ella Doud (Fairfield, NJ) capped the Devils score with a jumper in the final 30 seconds of play, having the overall score read in favor of the Bulldogs, with a 92-42 victory over FDU-Florham.
 
FDU-Florham shot 31.0-percent (18-for-58) from the floor, 40.0-percent (2-for-5) from three-point range and 66.7-percent (4-for-6) from the free throw line, while DeSales shot 52.7-percent (39-for-74) from the floor, 32.3-percent (10-for-31) from three point range and 30.8-percent (4-for-13) from the free throw line.

DeSales was able to score 50 points in the paint, 21 points of the fast break, and 32 points off the Devils turnovers.    
 
FDU-Florham will remain on the road for their next MAC Freedom contest at Lebanon Valley on Wednesday, January 7. Tip-off is currently set for 6pm.
