Madison, NJ (December 2) FDU-Florham Women's Basketball took on St. Joesph's-Long Island and lost a close fought battle, 57-49.
FDU-Florham (3-6, 0-0 MAC Freedom) was led in by
Christina Centeno (Bayonne, NJ), who score 20 points and 2 rebounds.
Kolby Lynch (Morristown, NJ) was a master on the glass tonight, racking up 17 rebounds.
St. Joseph's-Long Island's (6-0, 3-0 Skyline) best player on the court was Madelyn Barone, who scored 18 points and earned two rebounds.
The first quarter started with traded points from both sides. A lay up by
Shannon Tighe (Wayne, NJ) and a jumper by Centeno made the score 4-4. Centeno then put the Devils in front on a three-pointer to create a 7-4 advantage. A layup by
Julia Vazquez (Bound Brook, NJ) extended that, but the Golden Eagles went on a 6-0 run to close the quarter with a 10-9 lead.
St. Joseph's-Long Island continued with the momentum they gained at the end of the first half to go on a 10-4 run to extend their lead to seven points. Layups by Centeno and
Gabrielle Walker (Old Bridge, NJ) cut the Golden Eagle's lead down to five, but they went on another scoring run, this time 9-3, to a commanding lead to close the first half, by a score of 29-18.
The Golden Eagles extended their lead to 15 when the third quarter started, but the Devils clawed back, with three-pointers from Centeno and Tighe, and a tip in from Tighe as well cut the advantage to seven points. Both teams traded points on their next possession with FDU's coming from a jump shot from
Destiny Knight (Philadelphia, Pa). The Golden Eagle's put extended their lead to 13 before buckets from Tighe and
Bianca Sode (Kenilworth, NJ) put the score back into single digits. The remainder of the third quarter saw both sides put up buckets, and the score 45-36 heading into the last 10 minutes of the game.
The fourth quarter started with another three-pointer from Centeno to cut the lead to two possessions before St. Joseph's-Long Island extended their to 14 once again. The Devils put up a late charge, going on a 8-2 run, with buckets from
Amaya Fifield (Cambridge, Ma.), Centeno, and Lynch, to end the game, but it wasn't enough, and the St. Joseph-Long Island Golden Eagle's got the win by a score of 57-49.
FDU shot 28.6% (20-70) from the floor, 31.3% (5-16) from three-point range, and 66.7% (4-6) from the free throw line, while St. Joseph's-Long Island shot 31.0% (22-71) from the floor, 32.1% (9-28) from three-point range, and 66.7% (4-6) from the free throw line.
The Devils earned more points off turnovers (20-12), second chance points (8-4), and points in the paint (26-24), while the Golden Eagles earned more points from the bench (26-6) and more fastbreak points (7-4).
 The Devils will pack their bags and travel to Bryn Athyn on December 10
th. Tip-Off will be at 7:00 PM.
