Women's Basketball Takes Down Rutgers-Camden, 96-84

Newark, NJ (November 17) FDU-Florham Women's Basketball participated in the second game of the John K. Adams Tip-Off Classic, and cruised to victory against Rutgers-Camden, 96-84.

 FDU-Florham (2-3, 0-0 MAC Freedom) was led in scoring by Kolby Lynch (Morristown, NJ), who put up a season high of 30 points and 11 rebounds. Shannon Tighe (Wayne, NJ) also earned a double-double, with 14 points and 11 rebounds, her second one of the season.
 
Rutgers-Camden's (3-1, 0-0 NJAC) best player on the court was Na'Caia Jackson, who scored 17 points and earned six assists.

The first quarter started with six straight points from Rutgers-Camden, before FDU brought it to within a point from a Gabrielle Walker (Old Bridge, NJ) three-pointer. The Scarlet Raptors expanded the lead to five again, but the Devils punched back, scoring six straight points from Lynch and Bianca Sode (Kenilworth, NJ) to take the lead, 11-10. After some traded points, and a three-pointer from Tighe, FDU scored the last five points of the quarter off free throws from Amaya Fifield (Cambridge, M.A.) and Sode to end the first quarter with a 21-16 lead.

The second quarter with five straight points from the Scarlet Raptors to tie the game at 21, before a three-pointer was made by Christina Centeno (Bayonne, NJ) to take the three point lead for the Devils. The rest of the quarter was competitive from both sides, as both teams tied four more times in the quarter. Free throws from Julia Vazquez (Bound Brook, NJ) and a three-pointer from Fifield gave the Devils a five-point cushion. Rutgers-Camden scored the last four of the quarter, and at halftime the score was 39-38 in the Devil's favor.

The third quarter remained close for the entire ten minutes. The first few minutes saw several different lead changes, before a free throw by Centeno started up a 9-2 scoring run by FDU to put them up by seven. After a jumper from Kolby Lynch extended the lead to six, the Scarlet Raptors finished the third quarter strong, going on a 11-8 scoring run to tie the game at 65 at the end of the third quarter.

The fourth quarter is where the Devil's pulled away. After some traded points, and the score being tied at 69, FDU went on an 8-1 run all from Lynch to take a 75-70 lead. FDU extended the lead to 10 with a layup from Sode, before a three-pointer by Rutgers-Camden lowered their deficit to seven. That's the closest it would get, as FDU scored 12 straight points to shut the door on the Scarlet Raptors. When the game clock hit zero, FDU won 96-84.

FDU-Florham shot 50.0% (36-58) from the floor, 35.7% (5-14) from three-point range, and 62.2%  (23-37) from the free throw line, while Rutgers-Camden shot 42.3% (33-for-78) from the floor, 28.0% (7-25) from three-point range and 55.0% (11-for-20) from the free throw line.

FDU won more points off turnovers (22-17), second chance points (20-9), and more points in the paint (50-48). Rutgers-Camden won on bench points (25-21). Points to tie (11-11) or take the lead (13-13) were tied.
 
The Devils will travel to Galloway, NJ on November 20th to take on Stockton. Tip Off is at 6:00 PM.
