Newark, NJ (November 15) FDU-Florham Women's Basketball participated in the first game of the John K. Adams Tip-Off Classic and was bested by Rutgers-Newark, 79-55.

FDU-Florham (1-3, 0-0 MAC Freedom) was led in scoring by
Shannon Tighe (Wayne, NJ) with 12 points. On the glass, the Devils were led by
Bianca Sode (Kenilworth, NJ) who earned 13 rebounds.

Rutgers-Newark's (1-3, 0-0 NJAC) best player on the court was Zoe Francis-Bunkley, who scored 15 points.
The first quarter was close throughout, as most of it was within five points. Down 4-0 early in the game, the Devil's first points came from a layup by
Kolby Lynch (Morristown, NJ). A three-pointer later on by Tighe cut the lead down to two for the Scarlet Raiders. After some traded points,
Amaya Fifield (Cambridge, M.A) hit a layup to cut the lead down to a single possession. Lynch and Tighe hit jumpers to keep it at a one-possession game, but the quarter ended with four straight points from Rutgers-Newark, and they held a 23-16 lead at the end of it.Â
The second quarter was when Rutgers-Newark began to pull away.
Gabrielle Walker (Old Bridge, NJ) scored the first points of the quarter to cut the lead to five. After some traded baskets, including four straight points from
Christina Centeno (Bayonne, NJ) to keep the lead at five, the Scarlet Raiders went on a 13-2 run to close the half, including nine straight points in the middle. At the end of the first half, Rutgers-Newark expanded their lead to 40-24.
The Scarlet Raiders pushed their lead up to 20 to start the third quarter, before the Devils clawed back a little with a three-pointer by Centeno and a free throw by Sode. Most of the rest of the quarter was spent trading points, as the lead got to as high as 22 points and as low as 16 for Rutgers-Newark. The third quarter ended with the Scarlet Raiders up by 20, as the score was 60-40.
The fourth quarter started with a flurry of points from FDU. Shots from Walker and Fifield nearly cut the Scarlet Raiders lead in half. Unfortunately, after a timeout from Rutgers-Newark, they got it together and went on a 19-7 run to finish out the game. When the clock hit zero, Rutgers-Newark won the game by a score of 79-54.
FDU-Florham shot 28.0% (21-75) from the floor, 11.1% (2-18) from three-point range, and 58.8% Â (10-17) from the free throw line, while Rutgers-Newark shot 49.2% (31-for-63) from the floor, 0% (0-1) from three-point range and 73.9% (17-for-23) from the free throw line.
The statistics were all won by Rutgers-Newark, as they had more bench points (31-16), points in the paint (44-32), fast break points (16-13), and second chance points (15-3).

The Devils will compete in their second game of the John K. Adams Tip-Off Classic on November 17th at Rutgers-Newark's court, as they will take on Rutgers-Camden. The game will start at 2:00 PM.
