Madison, NJ (November 9) - The FDU Men's Basketball team defeats Centenary 84-79 in overtime, earning their first non-conference win of the 2024-25 seasonĀ
The Devils were led by Carson Woods (Phoenix, Az.), who tallied 25 points and 12 rebounds, Christopher Smith (Florham Park, NJ) and Amir Williams (Bronx, NY) who tallied 12, and Jaqwan Washington (Bryan, TX) who tallied 10. Ā
The Centenary Cyclones opened the first half of game play with an 11-6 lead at the 15:55 timestamp.Ā About halfway through the half at the 9:44 minute mark, Devils baskets were made by Washington, Woods, Smith, and McClellan Creek (Louisville, Ky.), but it was not enough to even the score. With less than 5 minutes left, the Devils took their 15 point deficit to 7, ending the first half with a score of 37-30, cyclone lead.Ā
In the beginning of the second half, Centenary was able to maintain their lead with a consistent 4 point gap between the scores. The Devils started closing that gap at the 17:10 minute mark, with baskets from Washington, Woods, and Creek. It was not until the 9:08 timestamp where free throws from Woods evened the score, 54-54. The Devils and Cyclones continued to then go basket for basket, until Centenary regained the lead with less than a minute remaining on the clock. With less than 30 seconds left, aĀ three-pointer made by Williams evened the score to 73-73, pushing the game into overtime.Ā
Overtime opened with a Cyclone lead of 5-3 but the score evened out to 77-77 at the 3:22 minute mark with a layup made by Williams. FDU eventually took the lead with free throws made by Woods and the Devils continued to press offensively earning baskets from Woods, Williams, and Smith. The Devils efforts ultimately brought the score to 84-79, first Devils win of the season.Ā
As a team, FDU-Florham shot 36.2 percent (25-69) from the floor, 19 percent (4-21) from three-point range, and 83.3Ā percent (25-30) from the free throw line. They totaled 40 points in the paint, 19 off the bench, and 20 points off turnovers.Ā Ā
Centenary shot 42.4 percent (28-66) from the floor, 32 percent (8-25) from three-point range, and 48.4 percent (15-31) from the free throw line. They totaled 36 points in the paint, 21 off the bench, and 11 off turnovers.Ā
FDU-Florham will travel toĀ Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday, November 13th. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 pm.Ā
