Delaware Valley Ends Football's Hope of a Perfect Season with a 33-8 Score

Doylestown, Pa (October 19)-  The FDU-Florham Football Team (5-1, 4-1 MAC) took week six of the 2024 season by the horns of Delaware Valley (5-1, 4-1 MAC) but was thrown down by the Aggies with a 33-8 score in Middle Atlantic Conference play.

In an offensive effort, Senior Ryon Thomas (Mattapoisett, Mass.) picked up 121 yards through the air on 15 of 26 pass completions. On the ground, he accounted for 23 yards on 18 carries. The backfield held Kwanir Edwards (Trenton, NJ) on 60 yards for 15 carries and was able to pick up the Devils' lone touchdown. Aidan Clowry (Pawling, NY) led FDU in receiving as he recorded seven catches for 52 total yards.

For the FDU Defense, Nathan Saccal (Alexandria, NJ) climbed to the top of the tackle total with ten, as he accounted for two solo and eight assisted. Otis Harold (Vinelabd, NJ) found an interception of 35 yards, while Ginika Ozurumba (Union, NJ) and Rocco Bonavolonta (Stanhope, NJ) accounted for half a sack of 2 yards.

After FDU-Florham deferred to kick-off to Delaware Valley, the Aggies got straight to work as they picked up three first downs and were able to pick up a one-yard rushing touchdown with the extra point going through the uprights, 7-0.

FDU's first drive was cut short after they were forced to punt at their 49-yard line. With a 44-yard punt from Tristan Newhouse (Severna Park, Md.) Delaware Valley was forced to start at their 8-yard line, which helped the Devils' defense push them back to the DVU 4 on second down. On the snap, Ozurumba and Bonavolonta rushed the quarterback and were not only credited with a sack but picked up the safety worth two points to end the first quarter of scoring for either team.

With the ball in Delaware Valley's hands to start the second quarter, the Aggies were able to start with an offensive positive as they added another touchdown and extra point to their side of the scoreboard. Both teams traded two drives before seeing another score as Delaware Valley upped the game to a 21-2 showing with five minutes remaining and eventually ending the first half.

The Devils received the kick to start the third quarter and were able to two first downs, before being stopped and were forced to turn the ball over on down at the DVU 39. Delaware Valley worked their way up the field to find another rushing touchdown of 25 yards but was blocked on the extra point by Matt Heinemann (Staten Island, NY) to keep a 27-2 score.

The quarter ended in each team exchanging drives twice, once again but FDU held onto the bell heading into the fourth quarter on their own 40-yard. With determination, the Devils worked their way up the field to have Edwards rush the ball in for the 1-yard touchdown.

Delaware Valley was able to score once more before ending the Devils' hopes of a perfect season with a 33-8 score.

With their road trip of games over, FDU-Florham will return to Robert T. Shields on Saturday, October 26 for a 12:00pm Middle Atlantic Contest against King's (PA).
