Madison, N.J. (January 10) – Despite outscoring Delaware Valley (7-7, 1-2 MAC Freedom) in the second half, a slow start to the game for the FDU-Florham (3-10, 0-3 MAC Freedom) men's basketball saw them head into halftime with a 15-point deficit that stalled the team as they dropped their conference matchup with the Aggies, 75-61 on Wednesday night
The Devils offense was led by Jaqwan Washington (Bryan, Texas.) who had 21 points followed by
Michael Dabas (Middletown, N.J.) with 11.
Carson Woods (Phoenix, A.Z) led the Devils in rebounds totaling six on the night. The Aggies saw three players reach double-digit points. They were led by Antonio Redding who notched 23.
Delaware Valley started the game off with a jumper from Godly Marc which sent them on a 9-point run that ended at the 16:07 minute mark as the took an early 11-0 lead. The Devils were able to stop that run after Washington capitalized on an and-one opportunity making the score 11-3. The points made by Washington were followed by Dabas sinking a three pointer to cut the Aggies lead to eight points. Throughout the first half both teams continuously exchanged buckets and the Devils saw more baskets from
Andrew Piombino Jr. (Rockaway, N.J.), Jamal Santana (Roxbury, N.J.), and Ethan Klueh (Orlando, Fla.). However, the Aggies continued to extend their lead run after 10-5 run and FDU went into halftime down 44-29.
The Devils came out hot as they went on a 14-6 run that ended at the 11:34 mark. This run allowed for FDU to get to their closest trail of the night with a score of 50-43. The run included baskets from
Micah Moore (West Orange, N.J.), Woods, Klueh, Washington, and Dabas. That close trail would only happen for a minute as the Aggies then went on an 11-5 run to make the score 61-48. After a pair of made free throws from Delaware Valley's Alec Hillard, Dabas collected a jumper that was followed by another 11-5 run from the Aggies. This run extended their lead over the Devils 63-50 with 4:58 remaining in the game. Despite the comeback attempts from Fairleigh Dickinson, they ultimately lost to Delaware Valley 75-61.
As a team, FDU-Florham shot 42.9 percent (21 of 49) from the floor, 22.7 percent (5 of 22) from the three-point range, and 58.3 percent (14 of 25) from the free-throw line. The Devils tallied 32 points in the paint, 21 points off the bench, and 24 fast break points.
Delaware Valley shot 39.7 percent (23 of 58) from the floor, 35.3 percent (6 of 17) from the three-point range, and 88.5 percent (23 of 26) from the free-throw line. They totaled 32 points in the paint, 15 points off the bench, and 22 points off turnovers.
FDU-Florham stays home on Saturday, January 13 for their next contest as the Devils play host to MAC Freedom opponent Misericordia for a 3:00 pm tip off.
