Doylestown, PA (January 10) – For their third MAC Freedom Contest of the season, the FDU-Florham Women's Basketball team traveled to Delaware Valley and suffered an 88-65 loss against the Aggies.
FDU-Florham ( 8-5, 1-2 MAC Freedom) saw its second set back in conference play, but not without
Neysa Aguilar (Middlesex, NJ) capturing her 13
th double digit scoring game with 20 points. A first career double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds belonged to
Carla Seyfarth (South Brunswick, NJ) as she was also a part of the Devils Scoring effort.
Delaware Valley (11-3, 2-1 MAC Freedom) was lifted to the win with the help of Alexis Wright and Haley Keenan, who contributed 21 and 20 points to the Aggies score.
The Devils wanted to start their scoring drive within the opening moments of the game as they went up 7-2 with two minutes taken off the clock. Delaware Valley found its rhythm as there were four lead changes in the first quarter. The Aggies took the lead into the second quarter as a layup pushed them to a 18-16 score.
FDU-Florham held close within the first three and a half minutes in of the second until the Aggies went on a 10-2 run. With a little over a minute remaining,
Aguilar was able to find her way to the basket to score before the half expired reading 41-25 on the scoreboard, in favor of Delaware Valley.
The second half started off with Delaware Valley scoring 10 points in the first two minutes to give them a 25-point lead, but a jumper by
Shannon Tighe (Wayne, NJ) gave a little spark to the Devils as they cut the score to a 18 point deficit, 51-33, with 6:45 remaining.
Delaware Valley continued to convert opportunities to points to end the third quarter with a 68-47 score.
The Devils looked to make a fourth quarter comeback as they started to chip away at the lead, cutting it to 17 points with 6:50 remaining. Two late three-pointers, one each from
Julia Vazquez (Bound Brooke, NJ) and
Destiny Knight (Philadelphia, PA) were the hopeful sparks for the Devils but it did not catch as the they lost 88-65 when the time officially expired.
FDU-Florham shot 41.5-percent (27-for-65) from the floor, 30.8-percent (4-for-13) from three point range and 50.0-percent (7-for-14) from the free throw line, while Delaware Valley shot 48.6-percent (36-for-74) from the floor, 28.6-percent (4-for-14) from three point range and 66.7-percent (12-for-18) from the free throw line.
Delaware Valley scored 54 points in the paint, 13 fast break points and 34 points off of the Devils turn over.
FDU-Florham will host Misericordia for their next MAC Freedom contest on Saturday, January 13. Tip-off is set for 1pm.
