Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Floats Past Stevenson, 2-1

Owings Mills, MD (September 24) – The FDU-Florham women's soccer team took a non-conference business trip Stevenson University, and will return to Madison, NJ with a 2-1 victory over the Mustangs on Sunday afternoon.

Records: FDU (7-2-1); Stevenson (2-3-3)
Location: Mustang Stadium (Owings Mills, MD)
FDU Goal Scorers: Madison Kleinwaks (4), Ashley Dietrich (10)

FDU-Florham traveled to Owings Mills, MD with mother nature fighting against, as Tropical Storm Ophelia brought large amounts of rain and wind to the east coast.

However, that did not put out the flame that was under the Devils as they were the first team to put up goal. Junior Mia Lopez (Rockaway, NJ) fed teammate Madison Kleinwaks (Boonton, NJ) a smooth pass that would split two defenders ahead. Kleinwaks saw the goalkeeper moving up and decided to chip it over her head for a goal (9th minute).

What would become the winning goal of the game, came in the 18th minute of the match as Ashley Dietrich (Middletown, NJ) scored her tenth goal and fourth game-winner of the season, after spinning her defenders in circles and bending the ball into Stevenson's goal to go up 2-0.

Stevenson's lone goal came from Cassidy Butler, as she struck and found the ball barely escaping the fingertips of FDU's goalie, 2-1.

The second half brought more opportunities for both teams, but the Devils held the advantage and took aim 12 times, compared to the Mustangs five shots. Both teams were close to scoring another goal, but the final score stood from the first half, 2-1.

Graduate student goalkeeper, Erica Blackburn (Marlboro, NJ) was seen between the post for the entire match and found the ball stuck to her gloves for seven saves.

FDU-Florham will be home for their next match on Wednesday, September 27. The Devils will host Drew for a 7pm non-conference match, that will be played in support of The Hidden Opponent Mental Health Awareness.
