Martinho Floats in Game-Winner for Women’s Soccer Against Marywood

Madison, NJ. (September 16) – Amanda Martinho's (Bridgewater, NJ) first collegiate goal was a special one as it became the game-winning goal to help lift the FDU-Florham women's soccer team past Marywood, 3-2 during its homecoming match on Saturday night.

Records: FDU-Florham (4-2-1); Marywood (1-4-0)
Location: Madison, NJ (Robert T. Shields Field)
FDU Goal Scorers: Ashley Dietrich (7), Madison Kleinwaks (2), Amanda Martinho (1)

Scoring was at a premium in the first half for both teams. It took only 15 seconds into the match for the Devils to get on the board as Madison Kleinwaks (Boonton, NJ) took advantage of a perfectly placed ball by Ashley Dietrich (Middletown, NJ), out raced her defender, made a move past the goalkeeper, and tapped the ball into the goal for a 1-0 FDU lead.

Marywood answered at the 5:38 timestamp when Caroline Walters found her sister Carly for a goal in front of the net to tie the contest, 1-1. They eventually took a 2-1 at the 11:07 mark with Isabel Shore connecting on a one-timer from Sarah Kretchmer.
50 seconds later, Dietrich knocked in her seventh goal of the year as she was able to collect a pass from Sofia Carrozza (Pawling, NY) and fire shot over the goalkeeper's head to tie the contest 2-2.

The two teams battled back-and-forth to find that game-winning goal that did not come until the final 10 minutes of the contest. At the 80:53 mark, a foul on Marywood gave the Devils a free kick opportunity. Martinho took that kick about 40 yards out and floated a perfect ball over everyone, including the goalkeeper, to give FDU the lead back and eventually the win.

Graduate Student goalkeeper Erica Blackburn (Marlboro, NJ) compiled seven saves in net during the win.

Both teams were even in total shots at 14 but Marywood had the advantage in shots on goal, 9-7. FDU however, did produce more corner kicks in the matchup with seven to Marywood's four

FDU hits the road for a trip to Hackettstown, NJ to take on Centenary (NJ) on Monday, September 18 for a 3:00 pm matchup.
