Softball Splits Doubleheader at Wilkes

Wilkes-Barre, PA (April 6) – The FDU-Florham Devils (8-9, 1-7) saw a split doubleheader against the Wilkes Colonials (17-5, 3-3), under Thursday evening's lights. FDU-Florham was able to take game one, 7-4, but fell in game two, 1-0.
 
Game 1:
 
A seven run rally during the top of the seventh, lead the Devils to a 7-4 win in the first game of Thursday evening.
 
Five innings were played, the game did not truly start until the bottom of the fifth inning when Wilkes was able to bring in a runoff a throwing error by the Devils.
 
 The seventh inning was when the Devils started to heat up. Senior Natalie Decena (Mount Arlington, NJ) started the fire with a double down the left field line, to tie the score at 1-1. The winning run came from Kirsten Tigar (Hazlet, NJ) as she reached first on an error, causing two of her teammates to step on home. The Devils proceeded to burn up by adding an additional three runs, 7-1.
 
Wilkes came close in the bottom of the seventh by adding three runs, but could not smother the Devils fire as Wilkes lost game one, 7-4.
 
In the circle for the Devils was Ciara Hoffman (Howell, NJ) (4-4) who accounted for six strikeouts while facing 31 batters for the win. Pitching for Wilkes was Hope Mullins (2-3), who pitched for 6.1 innings and recorded five strikeouts.

Game 2:

Game two of Thursday evening, was a tight game throughout. The Colonials however, came away with 1-0 win against the Devils.

FDU-Florham combined for two hits in the second game. Right fielder Kacie Centineo (Waldwick, NJ) found the ball a beautiful spot in center field for a base hit, as well as first baseman Kristina Pelano (Howell, NJ).

With one out and a runner on third, Wilkes was able to score the wining run off a wild pitch, and handing the Devils a 1-0 loss.

Bella Hills (North Branford, Conn.) (1-2) was seen in the circle for the Devils for the second game but unfortuanlly was given the loss, but not before throwing three strikeouts and facing 23 batters. Wilkes's Lauren DeMarco (7-1), recorded the win with twelve strikeouts on 22 batters.

For their next game, the Devils will travel to Moravian for non-conference Doubleheader on Tuesday, April 11th. The First game is set to be thrown at 3PM.
