Softball Tripped Up by Moravian in a Non-Conference Doubleheader

Bethlehem, PA (April 11) – The FDU-Florham Devils (8-11) dropped game one and was just shy of stealing game two but fell to Moravian University (15-6) in a non-conference doubleheader, on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Game 1:
 
Moravian was the first to put up a run as they singled to shortstop for a RBI in the bottom of the first and later added a second RBI from a single up the middle in the bottom of the second.
 
The Devils got their chance when catcher Colleen Conway (Amityvile, NY) doubled to right center for an RBI, 1-2. Moravian came in the bottom of the fourth swinging as they added three runs, 1-5, and added another four runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game on a mercy rule, 1-9.
 
FDU-Florham was able to collect six hits including a total of three from Conway however it was not enough to lift the Devils over Moravian in game one.
 
First-year Bella Hills (North Bradford, Conn.) (1-3) was given the loss but not before pitching through five innings and facing 30 batters. Moravian's Madi Cunningha (6-4) was awarded the win after pitching all six innings with seven strikeouts.

Game 2:

In game two of today's non-conference action, the Devils came close to stealing a game from Moravian but were short, as they fell 2-3.

Graduate student Bianca DiSanto (Colonia, NJ) started game two in style with a 2 run RBI homer to right field, giving the Devils a early 2-0 lead in the top of the second.

In the bottom of the third inning, Moravian added a run from a RBI single and collected it's second run off a throwing error, 2-2. The winning run came from J. Forder who doubled to left center for an RBI, 3-2.

Ciara Hoffman (Freehold, NJ) (4-5) threw for the Devils in game two and was given the loss, but not before throwing one strikeout. Sarah DeStefano struck out four batters and was seen in the circle the entire game for Moravian.

FDU-Florham will host Arcadia University on Saturday, April 15 for a MAC Freedom doubleheader. The first pitch will be thrown at 12pm and the games will be played in in support of Strikeout Cancer.
