Center Valley (April 5) – The FDU-Florham men's tennis team improved to 2-0 in MAC Freedom play as the Devils topped DeSales University, 6-3, this afternoon.
After tonight's matchup, FDU sits at 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the league, while DeSales fell to 4-2 and 0-1 in conference matches.
The Devils started tonight's match by winning all three doubles contests for an early 3-0 advantage.
Tyler Crook (East Orange, NJ) and
Joni Carasso (Buenos Aires, Argentina) topped Phillip Ritchie and Augie Citrone, 8-5, at No. 1, while
Zach Puccia (Red Bank, NJ) and
Brandon Schwartz (Gladwyne, PA) defeated Aiden Kiernan Ritchie and Will Pollick, 8-5, at No. 2, and with
Matthew Emery (Howell, NJ) and
Ronald Duval (Old Bridge, NJ) closing out doubles with a 8-6 victory over Thomas Blomquist and Mark Sherrill.
FDU won No. 1 and No. 6 singles in straight sets with scores of 6-2, 6-2 and 6-4, 6-4. Emery helped secure the win by taking No. 5 singles with a score of 7-5, 6-1.
Emery's win at No. 5 singles over Pollick gave FDU its fifth point in the match and guaranteed a win for the Devils tonight.
FDU will travel to FDU-Metro on Friday, April 7 at 3:00 pm for a non-conference match and a battle of the FDU's.
