Wilkes-Barre, Pa (April 28) – The FDU-Florham baseball team (7-30, 4-17 MAC FREE) had an 11-3 lead heading into the sixth inning but a huge 11-2 run in the bottom half of the innings was able to propel Wilkes (15-23, 9-13 MAC FREE) past the Devils, 14-13 on Friday afternoon.
 
Chris Kubas (New Providence, NJ), Jack Giovenco (Allentown, Pa) and Gabe Francisco (Rutherford) each recorded three RBI on the day with Giovenco leading the way in hits as he went 4-for-5 on the day. Brody Donovan (South Plainfield, NJ) scored four runs in the game while also collecting two hits and an RBI.

FDU came out swinging right away as they were able to take a 4-0 lead in the first inning on a two RBI single through the right side by Kubas, an RBI bunt by Giovenco and an RBI single to right field by Vincent Ferrigno (Marlboro, NJ).

The Devils added on to their lead with a pair of RBI by Kubas and Francisco to take a 6-0 lead before the Colonels were able to cut into it with a run in the bottom of the third and a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 6-3.

A two RBI shot to right center by Giovenco and a two RBI double to left center by Dylan Hode (Manalapan, NJ) helped extend the lead to 10-3.

FDU had an 11-3 lead after a sacrifice fly by Donovan brought home Tyrus Chippendale (Middlesex, NJ), but the runs started to come for Wilkes as they scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to narrow the deficit to 11-8. The Colonels tied the contest in the bottom of the sixth on a three RBI triple to center field and took their first lead of the day on a sacrifice fly in the same inning to hold a 12-11 advantage.

The Devils regained the lead on a another two RBI double by Kubas in the top of the seventh but the Colonels answered right back in the bottom of the frame with a two RBI homer over the left field fence for the 14-13 lead that they would hold on to for the rest of the contest.

Jake Rivera (West Islip, NY) was credited with the loss on the day in relief while Wilkes' Sawyer Kemp notched the win in relief. Mike Show entered in the ninth for Wilkes and got the save.

FDU-Florham will honor its nine seniors before wrapping up its MAC Freedom series with Wilkes on Sunday, April 30 with the first pitch scheduled for 11:00 am.
