Bethlehem, Pa (April 22) – The FDU Florham women's lacrosse team (8-8) dropped its final non-conference game of the season to Moravian (11-5), 22-12 on Wednesday afternoon.
Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ) led the Devils in goals for the fifth straight game as she collected four on the day followed closely by
Jenna Ranney (Forest Hill, Md.) and
Emma Ciquera (Putnam County, Conn.), who both scored three goals apiece.
Lizzy Escudero (Bridgewater, NJ) totaled four points with a goal and three assists while
Marissa Ross (Owings Mills, Md.) won double digit draw controls with 11 on the day.
Alison Kozik (Ellington, Conn.) and
Maddy Apap (Montgomery, NY) split halves in the matchup with Kozik getting the start and the loss while making one save. Apap came in the second half and tallied four saves.
For the Greyhounds, Jackie Salvatore put together a double-digit point effort with 10 points on six goals and four assists. Brittany Bill also scored six goals and collected an assist for seven points. Rylee Soltis got the win while playing the first half in goal while making three saves. Brelyn Friedman got action in goal in the second half in tallied two saves.
Ciquera put in the first goal of the game early in the first quarter at the 13:46 mark but Moravian scored four unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead. After an Ashton goal at the 5:46 timestamp in the first quarter, the Greyhounds outscored the Devils 6-1 up until the 10:52 mark in the second quarter when another goal scored by Ashton made the score 10-3 Moravian.
FDU flipped the script down the stretch in the second quarter, outscoring Moravian 5-1 after the Ashton goal, including a score by Escudero at the first half buzzer to cut the lead to 11-8 Greyhounds heading into the second half.
The second half started off the same as the first with a Ciquera goal to open up. Moravian was able to take back control and held it the rest of the way with six unanswered goals to round out the third quarter and then 4-3 in the fourth to take the 22-12 win.
As a team, The Devils took 24 shots including 17 on goal, eight ground balls and 23 draw controls. FDU also converted 9-of-12 clear attempts.
For the Greyhounds, they totaled 39 shots with 27 shots on goal, 16 ground balls and 14 draw controls. Moravian went a perfect 18-for-18 on its clear attempts this afternoon.
FDU-Florham wraps up the regular season with a MAC Freedom road contest at Lycoming on Saturday, April 29 at 1:00 pm. The Devils can clinch the second seed in the MAC Freedom playoffs with a win.
