Madison, NJ (April 25) – After a weather suspension and going into extra innings, the FDU-Florham Softball team (14-13, 5-7) emerged victorious in a 4-3 win over Arcadia University (17-19, 6-8) for a MAC Freedom contest on Tuesday afternoon.
FDU-Florham and Arcadia University previously played part of a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday April 15. Through five innings of game two, game play was suspended due to weather.
Before the suspension, FDU-Florham's first run was scored by
Kristen Tigar (Hazlet, NJ) off a wild pitch.
Kacie Centineo (Waldwick, NJ) grounded out to second base, but not before her teammate crossed home plate for the Devils second run.
Arcadia's first run came just before the weather delay as Nathalia Dilanni singled to left field for an RBI. With one out, Arcadia baserunners on second and third, and the Devils holding a 2-1 lead, the game was suspended until a later date.
Following the suspension Arcadia was the first to score on the day in the sixth inning as they tied the score at 2-2, with a double to left center. The Knights added another RBI to go up 3-2 heading into extra innings.
In the eighth inning,
Abigail Rodriguez (Woodbridge, NJ) unfortunately flied out to right field but recorded the SAC fly for an RBI, to tie the score. The winning run came in the bottom of the ninth inning when Senior
Kristina Pelano (Howell, NJ) singled through the left side for the walk-off RBI, 4-3.
First Year,
Bella Hills (North Branford, Conn.) (2-3) pitched through the first four innings before the delay and was given the win.
