Madison, NJ (April 25) – The FDU-Florham baseball team (7-29) mounted a strong comeback in the later innings, outscoring Stockton (20-16) 4-1 in the last three frames of the game but the rally fell just short as the Ospreys held on for an 8-7 win.
 
Sean Wodell (Freehold, NJ) and Chris Kubas (New Providence, NJ) each drove in two runs for the Devils while Kubas also went a perfect three-for-three during his at bats.

Stockton struck first early in the top of the first inning with an RBI single to the shortstop and then again in the top of the second on an RBI double to left center to give the Ospreys the 2-0 lead.

The Ospreys continued to add on to their lead with a three-run top of the fifth to hold a 6-0 lead before the Devils were able to put their first run on the board with a Vincent Ferrigno (Marlboro, NJ) ground out that plated Jack Giovenco (Allentown, Pa).

Stockton drove in another run on a single up the middle in the top of the sixth but was answered in the bottom half of the inning when Wodell grounded out to third but allowed Ferrigno to get home to make the score 7-3 Ospreys.

A wild pitch in the top of the ninth inning allowed Stockton to get another run across to make it 8-3. The Devils shifted the momentum early in the bottom of the ninth and were able to put up four runs on RBI singles from Wodell and Brody Donovan (South Plainfield, NJ) and an RBI double up the middle by Kubas. The Osprey defense, however, was able to force three straight outs to hold on the 8-7 triumph.

Robbie Hughes (Union, NJ) was credited with the loss on the mound for FDU after he surrendered five runs in 4.1 innings pitched but struck out four batters.

For Stockton, the win went to Phil Santa Maria who came in relief to notch the victory while pitching 2.0 innings and allowing only two hits with a strikeout.
