Ross breaks Single-Game Draw Control Record During 24-8 Rout at Wilkes

Wilkes-Barre, Pa (April 22) – Sophomore Marissa Ross (Owings Mills, NJ) broke the FDU-Florham single game record for draw controls in a contest with 24 on the day as the FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team (8-7, 6-1 MAC FREE) also saw its offense erupt for 24 points to help spark a 24-8 win against Wilkes (3-12, 0-6 MAC FREE) for its sixth straight MAC Freedom win on Saturday afternoon.

Ross broke the record she previously held last season when she had 19 against Wilkes as well. Her 24 draw controls also currently sits at the second most single-game draw controls this season of any Division III women's lacrosse player.

Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ) shot in a team-high seven goals as well as an assist during the contest while Lizzy Escudero (Bridgewater, NJ) notched her fifth double-digit game of the year with 13 points on six goals and seven assists.

Jenna Ranney (Forest Hill, Md.), Emma Ciquera (Putnam County, Conn.) and Claudia Zappia (South Brunswick, NJ) all tallied hat tricks on the day while Alison Kozik (Ellington, Conn.) got the win while making one save on the day.

For Wilkes, Caitlin McDonough led the team in points with four on three goals and an assist. Samantha Scott suffered the loss for the Colonels while making 11 saves.

The Devils offense started hot right off the first draw, outscoring the Colonels 8-4 in the first quarter with three goals coming from Ashton and two from Ranney.

FDU again had another hot quarter, scoring nine goals to the Colonels three to lead 17-7 at the end of the first half.

In the second half, while the offensive output cooled off, scoring just seven goals between the two quarters, the FDU defense held Wilkes to just one second half goal to claim its sixth straight MAC Freedom win.

As a team, The Devils took 45 shots including 35 on goal, 16 ground balls and 26 draw controls. FDU also converted 7-of-8 clear attempts.

The Colonels were held to just 16 shots on the day including nine on goal to go along with 11 ground balls and six draw controls. They also succeeded on 11 of their 12 clear attempts.

FDU-Florham makes up a contest from February 25 as they travel to Moravian to take on the Grey Hounds on Wednesday, April 26.
