Softball Secured Game One, But Surrendered Game Two to Saint Elizabeth

Madison (April 22) – The FDU-Florham Devils (12-12) hosted Saint Elizabeth University (17-10) for a battle of Madison Ave. and a non-conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon, that resulted in a split as the Devil's took game one, 3-2,  but lost game two to the Eagles, 9-1.
 
Game 1:

The Devils took game one as they defeated the Eagles 3-2. FDU-Florham recorded seven hit, including three hits belonging to Jada Lambright (Clifton Park, NY). 

In the second inning, the Devils found their chance to bring in a runner as Lambright doubled to right center for the RBI. Bianca DiSanto (Colonia, NJ) added FDU-Florham's second run by reaching first and sending home her teammate to go up 2-0.
 
The winning run came from Kacie Centineo (Waldwick, NJ) as she brought of what would be the winning RBI by sending the ball up the middle for a single. Saint Elizabeth added its two runs in the fourth and seventh inning but was short as the Devils won 3-2.
 
Recording the win for the Devils was Ciara Hoffman (Freehold, NJ.) (8-5) as she pitched through four innings and handed out four strikeouts. Saint Elizabeth's Kami DeGaetani (0-1) recorded the loss in the game one as she pitched the entire game.

Game 2:

Game two belonged to Saint Elizabeth as they outscored the Devils 9-1 for the win in five innings.  FDU-Florham collected three hits as it sent 19 batters to the plate.

Saint Elizabeth made a statement in the first inning but going up 2-0. A big second inning allowed the momentum to carry for the Eagles as they added another six runs and one more in the third inning, 9-0.

FDU-Florham added its lone run in the fifth inning by Kristen Tigar (Hazlet, NJ) as she singled it down the right field line to bring in Heather Priante (Howell, NJ). The Devils gave it their best shot but were stopped through five innings and was given the 9-1 loss.

DiSanto was in the circle to start game two. She was seen through the first inning and pitched three strikeouts before receiving the loss. First-year Victoria Fantozzi (Hillsborough, NJ) made her collegiate pitching debut and contributed 2 strikeouts. For the Eagles, Kaitlynne McCarthy (1-0) traveled home with the win in game two as she pitched five innings and threw two strikeouts.

The Devils will return to McManus Field on Saturday, April 22 to host Centenary University for another non-conference doubleheader. The first pitch will be thrown at 12pm and the Devil's seniors will be honored before the games.
