Madison, NJ (April 19) – Misericordia (28-6, 16-3 MAC FREE) put together scored nine of its thirteen runs on home run balls as they were able to sink the FDU-Florham baseball team (7-26, 4-14 MAC FREE), 13-3 on Friday afternoon.
Three walks to open the contest gave Misericordia's Brady Madden an opportunity to score runs and he delivered a grand slam over the left field fence for the game's first runs. The Cougars found one more run later in the frame to hold a 5-0 lead after the top of the first inning.
Misericordia would keep applying the pressure on the FDU squad with eight more unanswered runs including a three-run homer and a two-run homer in the top of the fourth inning and had a 13-0 lead after the top of the fifth inning.
The Devils got its first run on the board when
Jack Giovenco (Allentown, Pa.) singled up the middle to send home
Gabe Francisco (Rutherford, NJ) to make the score 13-1 in favor of the Cougars.
FDU ended the scoring on the day with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Brody Donovan (South Plainfield, NJ) got an RBI single up the middle to score
Matt Aber (Basking Ridge, NJ) and
Sean Wodell (Freehold, NJ) singled to left field to plate Francisco for his second scoring run of the day.
Vincent Ferrigno (Marlboro, NJ) notched three hits on his four at bats during the contest.
Tommy Yost (Port Jefferson, NY) suffered the loss during his first collegiate start after surrendering the first inning grand slam.
Eli Gonzalez (Brooklyn, NY) pitched most of the game for the devils with 4.1 innings and allowed only one run on five hits and struck out a batter.
For the Cougars, David McCurry bumped his pitching record to 5-0 on the season, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing three earned runs and struck out four batters.
