Softball Faces a Pair of Setbacks Against Misericordia

Madison, NJ (April 2) – The FDU-Florham Devils (7-8, 0-6) faced two setbacks as the Misericordia Cougars (11-7, 3-1) were victorious in Sunday afternoon's doubleheader action.
 
Game 1:
 
In game one of Sunday afternoon, the Devils were defeated 5-1, but not before graduate student Ciara Hoffman (Freehold, NJ) recorded her 200th career strikeout.
 
Misericordia was able to put up two RBIs in the first inning and doubled to left center field for an RBI, to up the score 3-0.
 
The Devils scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning, with a single up the middle for an RBI from Kirsten Tigar (Hazlet, NJ) (3-1). Misericordia added their last runs at the top of the seventh with two run homer to left field.

In the circle for Devils was Hoffman (3-4) who pitched the entire game with eight strikeouts. She was given the loss and Misericordia's Alexa McHugh was awarded the win after pitching the entire game, with nine strikeouts.

Game 2:

Game two of Sunday afternoon, was full of action from the Devils. However, Misericordia swung with power to secure the 9-4 win.

Misericordia started the second game with a homer to left field. The Devils came into the bottom of the second and were able to steal a base to get the runner on third home. Kacie Centineo (Waldwick, NJ) added to the flame with a double to left center for a two run RBI.

The Cougars added another three runs off a homer to center field. Kristen Tigar evened the score in the bottom of the fourth inning, with a single up the middle for an RBI.
Unfortunately, Misericordia kept the momentum going by adding an additional five runs through the rest of game, resulting in a 9-4 loss for FDU-Florham.

Bella Hills (North Branford, Conn.) was seen in the circle for the Devils in the second game but unfortuanlly was given the loss. Hills threw for 5.1 innings and faced 30 batters. Emily Wenner pitched the entire game for Misericordia, with three strikeouts and faced 32 batters.

For their next game, the Devils will travel to Wilkes for another MAC Freedom Doubleheader on Thursday, April 6th. The First game is set to be thrown out at 3PM.
