Madison, NJ (April 19) – The FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team (7-7, 5-1 MAC FREE) won its fifth straight MAC Freedom matchup as they were able to hold of DeSales, 13-12 on Wednesday evening.
Jenna Ranney (Forest Hill, Md.) led the Devils in scoring for the first time this season, collecting three goals and two assists while
Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ) scored four goals in the win.
Marissa Ross (Owings Mills, Md.) totaled her sixth game with double-digit draw controls with 13 on the day.
Alison Kozik (Ellington, Conn.) started the game in net for the Devils, saving two shots but it was
Maddy Apap (Montgomery, NY) who came in the second half and got the win including 10 saves.
For DeSales, Marina Bradley led the way with four goals and one assists for five points followed by Hayley Petrosini who created four points on three goals and an assist. Michela Regan went the distance in goal for the Bulldogs but suffered the defeat while making seven saves.
It was a tight contest after the first quarter of play with the Devils holding a 4-3 lead including two goals from Ranney. DeSales took the advantage for the first time in the contest in the second quarter with two goals at the 11:01 and 6:43 mark to make the score 5-4. Ashton scored a man-down goal at the 3:11 timestamp in the second quarter with Marina Bradley retaking the lead for DeSales with 54 seconds left in the half. FDU thought they would go into the half all nodded up with a goal coming from
Emma Ciquera (Putnam County, Conn.) with 15 second left but the Bulldogs raced down the field off the draw and saw a goal from Dani Towey with four seconds to go to take a 7-6 lead into the half.
The third quarter saw both teams exchange two goals a piece with one goal from the Devils coming from
Aubrey Hunter (Cape May Court House, NJ) who scored in her first collegiate appearance. Another goal from Ashton at the 9:26 mark in the third quarter sparked a four-goal run for the Devils to take a 12-9 lead into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter saw DeSales outscore FDU, 3-1 with all goals scored in the first five minutes of the quarter. The Bulldogs generated opportunities to try and tie the game but the Devils defense stood strong including Apap who made three saves including two saves off free position shots in the final five and a half minutes of the contest to help seal another conference win for FDU.
As a team, The Devils took 29 shots including 20 on goal, 14 ground balls and 18 draw controls. FDU also converted 18-of-20 clear attempts.
The Bulldogs as a team generated 33 shots on the day including 24 on goal to go along with 18 ground balls and 13 draw controls. They also succeeded on 20 of their 24 clear attempts.
FDU-Florham travels for a MAC Freedom matchup against Wilkes on Saturday, April 22 with the first draw scheduled for 1:00 pm.
