Softball Collects Two Wins at Delaware Valley

Doylestown, PA (April 19) – The FDU-Florham Devils (11-11, 4-7) traveled to Delaware Valley (7-23, 0-10) for a MAC Freedom doubleheader and came back to Madison, NJ with two wins on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Game 1:
 
Both teams were quiet throughout the beginning of game one as FDU-Florham and Delaware Valley was able to collect two hits through the first seven innings.
 
As the game went into extra innings, it was FDU-Florham that came out on top. Graduate-student Dana Giardina (New Fairfield, Conn.) grounded out to the shortstop but not before securing the RBI for the Devils' first and winning run. The Devils' other three runs came from Kristen Tigar (Hazlet, NJ), Bianca DiSanto (Colonia, NJ) , and Kacie Centineo (Waldwick, NJ) as they all doubled into the outfield for an RBI and the 4-0 win.
 
Graduate-student pitcher, Ciara Hoffman (Freehold, NJ.) (6-5) pitched through the entire game and threw a season high of 13 strikeouts. Delaware Valley's Kenzie Boyd (6-12) saw the loss in game one, but not before pitching the entire game with three strikeouts.

Game 2:


In game two of the doubleheader at Delaware Valley, The Devils got a taste and were hungry for the second win.

FDU-Florham wanted to score early in this game, as Abigail Rodriguez (Woodbridge, NJ) singled through the left side for an RBI. In the third inning, Tigar was able to reach home on a throwing error by the shortstop. Tigar was up to bat in fourth inning and was able to bring in Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif.) home for a RBI single, 3-0.

The Devils added another four runs between the fourth and seventh inning, including a two run homer to center field from Rodriguez in the fifth inning. The Devils capped the trip to Doylestown, PA with a 8-1 victory in game two.

Hoffman (7-5) was also seen through the entirety of game two and was given the win with seven strikeouts. Bailey Smith (1-4) pitched through 4.1 innings for Delaware Valley and recorded one strikeout on 24 batters.

The Devils host Saint Elizabeth for a non-conference doubleheader on Friday, April 21. The game will be played in support of the Hidden Opponent Mental Health Awareness and will start at 3pm.
