Madison, NJ (March 7) – The FDU-Florham baseball team (3-3) was bested on the road in non-conference action against Rutgers-Newark (6-1), 12-3 on Tuesday afternoon.
Zach Ganca (Merrick, NY) led the way in hitting for the Devils, going 3-for-4 on the day while
Jimmy Finnerty (Augusta, NJ) launched his third home run of the season.
Finnerty's solo shot over the center field fence came in the top of the second to score the game's first run, however the Scarlet Raiders were able to answer with five runs in the bottom of the frame to take the advantage.
Tyler McCulloch (Berkeley Heights, NJ) cut the lead to 5-2 on a sacrifice fly to center field that scored
Dylan Hode (Manalapan, NJ) in the top of the third. Rutgers-Newark extended its lead to 12-2 when they scattered seven runs between the bottoms of the fifth and seventh innings before FDU scored the last run of the contest in the top of the eighth inning on a wild pitch that plated McColluch.
Robbie Hughes (Union, NJ) got his first starting nod of his Devil's career, pitching an inning while allowing one earned run in the loss. For the Scarlet Raiders, Colin Thomson pitched seven innings, allowed only two earned runs and struck out six batters for his second win of the season on the mound.
