Madison, NJ (March 12) – The FDU-Florham baseball team opened Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC) Freedom play with a two game sweep over Lycoming College on Sunday afternoon at Vincent J. and Lenda F. Naimoli Ballpark.
 
FDU-Florham is now 5-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while Lycoming fell to 1-6 on the year and to 0-2 in the league.
 
Game 1:
 
The Devils scored in four of their six innings at the plate which included a four spot in the second. FDU-Florham got on the board in the first on a sacrifice fly and added the four runs in the second on a pair of errors by the Warriors. A two run single through the left side with the bases loaded by Jack Giovenco (Allentown, Pa.) in the fifth made the score 8-1.

Lycoming answered with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth to make the score 8-3 in the top of the sixth, but Ben Cohen (Malibu, Calif.) shut the Warriors down in the seventh to secure the conference win for FDU-Florham.
 
Sebastian Alverio (Belleville, NJ) had a strong inning on the bump for FDU-Florham as he tossed five innings, scattered three hits, allowed one unearned run and struck out six to improve to 1-1 on the young season. Zac Zaller (0-1) took the loss for Lycoming on two innings, five runs (two earned) and two walks.

Game 2:

FDU-Florham first-year shutdown the Lycoming bats for five shutout innings as he scattered just three hits and struck out five en route to his first collegiate win on the hill.

The Devils struck for single runs in the first, second and fifth innings before putting the game away with a four spot in the sixth. Tyler McCulloch (Berkeley Heights, NJ), Tyrus Chippendale (Middlesex, NJ) and Zach Ganca (Merrick, NY) all drove in runs in the sixth frame.

In the nightcap, Aaron Santos (Bridgewater, NJ) and McCulloch both registered three hits, while Ganca and Chippendale both tallied two RBI apiece.

FDU-Florham will travel to Florida for its next five contests. The Devils will open action on Tuesday, March 14 against Minnesota-Morris at 9:00 am.
