Hoboken, N.J. (March 29) – The FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team (1-7, 0-1 MAC FREE) were upended in their Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) opener at Stevens (9-1, 1-0 MAC FREE), 19-8 on Wednesday night.
Lizzy Escudero (Bridgewater, NJ) and
Marissa Ross (Owings Mills, Md.) each had two goals and an assist in matchup.
Alison Kozik (Ellington, Conn.) suffered the loss in goal for the Devils while making 10 saves.
Stevens was led by Camryn Rogers and Julieann Murphy who each posted four goals. Rogers also led the way in draw control wins with nine while Murphy collected six of her own. Lauren Cunniff notched the win in net while making seven saves
Stevens started off with a bang in the first quarter, scoring six unanswered goals and outscoring FDU, 9-2. The Ducks held the Devils scoreless in the second quarter while adding another four goals to their total for a 13-2 lead going into the second half.
Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ) and
Emma Ciquera (Putnam County, Conn.) started off the second half with goals FDU but were answered by three goals from Stevens to make the score 16-4 heading into the fourth quarter. The Devils outscored the Ducks in the fourth quarter with two goals from Ross and goals from Escudero and
Jenna Ranney (Forest Hill, Md.) to close out the game.
As a team, The Devils took 20 shots including 15 on goal, eight ground balls and 10 draw controls. FDU also succeeded on 8 of its 12 clear attempts.
The Ducks as a team combined for 39 shots with 29 of them on goal, 15 ground balls and 20 draw controls. Stevens also went 13-for-14 on clear attempts during the contest.
FDU-Florham returns home for the first time in a month as they host Arcadia Saturday, April 1 at 1:00 pm up at Elizabeth Ruth Hennessey Field.
