Women’s Lacrosse Downs Kean, 15-8

Union, N.J. (March 25) – The FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team (1-6) got themselves back on track as they downed Kean, 15-8 in their final non-conference matchup of the season on Saturday afternoon.

Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ) was the points leader on the day for FDU with six points on four goals and two assists closely followed by Lizzy Escudero (Bridgewater, NJ) who also put in four goals along with an assist. Julianna Medina (Linwood, NJ) notched her second hack trick of the season while also assisting a goal for four points. Alison Kozik (Ellington, Conn.) got the win in goal for the Devils, going the distance while making eight saves.

For Kean, Kylie Giordano led the way with a hat trick followed by Rosalee Lachner who scored two goals for the Cougars. Nicole Peters got the loss in net while recording six saves.

The Devils exploded out the gate with seven unanswered goals in the first quarter including three goals in the first five minutes of the contest to take a 7-0 lead into the second period. Goals by Medina and Marissa Ross (Owings Mills, Md.) gave the Devils a 9-0 lead in the second quarter before Kean was able to strike back with three straight goals to cut the lead to 9-3 at the 4:47 mark in the second period but FDU found two more goals before the half to take an 11-3 lead going into the second half. The two teams exchanged blows in the third and fourth quarters with the Cougars outscoring the Devils in the second half, 5-4 but the first half lead was unsurmountable to overcome for Kean and FDU took the win, 15-8.

As a team, The Devils took 34 shots including 21 on goal, 15 ground balls and 16 draw controls. FDU also succeeded on 14 of its 19 clear attempts.

The Cougars as a team combined for 23 shots with 15 of them on goal, 19 ground balls and 11 draw controls. Kean also went 15-for-17 on clear attempts during the contest.
