Auburndale, Fla. (March 15) – The FDU-Florham baseball team came up just short to Western New England University, 9-7, on day two of their trip south to Florida.
FDU-Florham (5-5) was led offensively by
Tyler McCulloch (Berkeley Heights, NJ) who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored. At the top of the lineup,
Tyrus Chippendale (Middlesex, NJ) went 1-for-2, scored three runs and walked four times. Western New England (5-1-1) saw three student-athletes with two RBI apiece.
Both teams traded sacrifice flies in the first before Western New England scored three in the second and four in the fourth for an 8-2 advantage. The Devils attempted to get back even with the Golden Bears and scored three in the fifth thanks to an RBI single by McCulloch and a two run single by
Brody Donovan (South Plainfield, NJ).
FDU-Florham, which stranded a total of 13 guys on base today, had runners in scoring position in almost every inning down the stretch and was able to get one back in the eighth on a wild pitch. In the ninth, the Devils had the bases loaded but Western New England closer Tommy Donohue struck out the side to end the game.

William Hoover (Somers Point, NJ) took the loss on two innings, four hits, four earned runs and four strikeouts, while Demetrius Boulas earned the win for Western New England out of the pen.
