Madison, NJ (March 1) – Senior
Lizzy Escudero (Bridgewater, NJ) registered six goals and four assists for ten points in a 16-5 win for the FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.
In addition to Escudero's performance, FDU-Florham (1-1) first-year
Julianna Medina (Linwood, NJ) notched her first career hat trick to go along with a pair of assists for five points, while
Claudia Zappia (South Brunswick, NJ) and
Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ) both scored twice for the Devils in the win. Tonight's game also marked the first career win as a head coach for FDU-Florham's
Sierra Slack.
Medina and Montclair State's (0-2) Chelsea Stack traded goals to open the game before Escudero scored twice to give FDU-Florham a 3-1 edge after one. The Devils outscored the Red Hawks, 9-4, over the middle quarters and 4-0 in the fourth en route to the 16-5 victory.
Marissa Ross (Owings Mills, Md.) won ten draw controls for the Devils and added a trio of caused turnovers to her stat line. Defensively, Escudero and
Riley Kells (Parsippany, NJ) both led FDU-Florham with a trio of ground balls.
As a team, FDU-Florham went 3-for-5 on free position shots and 13-for-21 in clearing attempts. The Devils held an edge in shots (32-20), saves (9-8) and draw controls (17-8). In net, FDU-Florham keeper
Alison Kozik (Ellington, Conn.) earned the win in her first collegiate start with five saves over the opening 30 minutes of play.
Tonight, FDU-Florham saw success on the man-advantage as the Devils scored all five times while Montclair State had a student-athlete in the penalty box. FDU-Florham also scored once a player down.
FDU-Florham will travel to #10 nationally-ranked Ithaca College on Saturday, March 4 for a non-conference game scheduled for 3:00 pm with the Bombers.
