Dallas, Pa. (February 18) – Despite getting 23 points from both Carson Woods (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Matthew Johnson (Oak Ridge, NJ), the FDU-Florham men's basketball team dropped a 91-86 decision at Misericordia University, in its 2022-23 season finale on Saturday afternoon.
 
In total four student-athletes scored in double figures for FDU-Florham (3-22, 2-14 MAC Freedom). Woods, in addition to his 23 points, registered seven assists, two steals and three rebounds, while Johnson tallied two steals, six boards and a trio of assists. Brian Nichols (Roxbury, NJ) and Jamal Santana (Randolph, NJ) ended the day with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
 
Misericordia (13-12, 8-8 MAC Freedom) was guided by Nate Kreitzer, who registered 24 points, six rebounds and five assists as well as Kevin Lazdowsky, who tallied 20 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Derek Smith added an 11 point, ten rebound double double for the Cougars.
 
The first half of today's contest was tightly contested and saw the score tied on four occasions. Woods knocked down a pair of free throws to give the Devils a 36-34 edge with 3:12 remaining in the first half before the Cougars went on an 11-2 run, that included three shots from behind the arc, to end the half with a seven point edge, 45-38.

FDU-Florham trailed by nine at 55-46 with 15:02 to play in the game and proceeded to go on a 13-0 run that featured five points from Johnson and four from Santana for a 59-55 advantage. Down the stretch, the score was knotted at 71-71, 73-73 and 75-75. A trey and a pair of free throws gave Misericordia an 83-77 lead with 2:36 to play, but Aidan Newman (Gainesville, Fla.) knocked in a three pointer and Santana finished a layup to cut FDU-Florham's deficit to just one point at 83-82 with just over a minute left.
 
Both teams traded blocked shots until there was just 16 ticks left on the clock and free throws became the deciding factor. Both FDU-Florham and Misericordia were perfect from the line down the stretch, but the Cougars forced a turnover and ended the game.
 
FDU-Florham shot 53.6-percent (30-for-56) from the floor, 50.0-percent (11-for-22) from three point range and 65.2-percent (15-for-23) from the free throw line. The Devils scored 36 points in the paint and 13 points off the bench.
 
Misericordia shot 45.3-percent (29-for-64) from the floor, 41.4-percent (12-for-29) from three point range and 91.3-percent (21-for-23) from the free throw line. The Cougars scored 28 points in the paint and 29 points off the bench.
