Women's Basketball Keeps Winning Streak Alive with 64-49 Win Over Bryn Athyn

Madison, NJ (December 13) – The FDU-Florham Women's Basketball team hosted the Bryn Athyn Lions for their fourth home contest in December and sealed their fourth straight win with a 64-49 win, in non-conference play.

For the first time since the 2017-2018 season, FDU-Florham has a streak of four wins, to improve their overall record this season to 5-3. Bryn Athyn dropped to the same overall record of 5-3 after the loss to the Devils.
 
Neysa Aguilar (Middlesex, NJ) controlled the floor and the Devils points as she led the team with 22 points and 6 rebounds. Just two rebounds shy of the single-game record was Shannon Tighe (Wayne, NJ) as she grabbed 23 rebounds and 12 points. Carla Seyfarth (South Brunswick, NJ) also contributed 12 points to the box score.

Bryn Aythn's, Alayna Day, was the Lions' leading scorer as she was seen with 17 points.

After a quick conversion off the tip-off, the Devils were able to secure the first points of the game just five seconds into the game with a layup from Aguilar. Bryn Athyn kept up with the Devils pace and was able to force a 7-7 score with six minutes remaining after a made three-pointer. Defense and converted shots helped FDU-Florham close the first quarter at a 21-13 score.

Bryn Athyn found a break and was able to capitalize on shots to close the gap within ten points at the 2:38 minute timestamp of the second quarter, 35-25. The Devils were able to outlast the Lions by scoring another five points to keep the 40- 27 lead heading into halftime.

The third quarter started with a 10-4 run from the Devils, until a jumper from the Lions was made with a little under six minutes to play. The Devils were able to keep pushing the ball up the court and saw points by Aguilar, Tighe, and Seyfarth to close the third quarter with 55-41 score.

FDU-Florham opened the fourth quarter with a trip to the bank as Destiny Knight (Philadelphia, Pa) made a long three-point field goal. After a jumper from Bryn Athyn, Knight answered with another three-pointer to read 61-43 on the score board.

The Devils defense was able to hold Bryn Athyn to only another six points, which resulted in a loss for the Lions and a 64-49 victory for FDU-Florham.
 
FDU-Florham shot 36.8-percent (21-for-57) from the floor, 18.8percent (3-for-16) from three point range and 70.4-percent (19-for-27) from the free throw line, while Bryn Athyn shot 28.4-percent (19-for-67) from the floor, 13.6-percent (3-for-22) from three point range and 61.5-percent (8-for-13) from the free throw line.

The Devils scored dominated the paint by scoring 30 points, scored 21 points on fast break opportunities, and capitalized on the Lions' turnovers with 11 points.
 
FDU-Florham will host cross-town rival, Drew University, on Saturday December 16. Tip-off is set for 1pm with the ten year anniversary of the 2013-2014 national championship taking place before, at 12:30pm.
