Football Stalled Against Misericordia in Home Finale, 6-3

Madison, N.J. (November 11)- The FDU-Florham football team (5-5, 4-5 MAC) scored on the first drive of the game but were stalled out by the Misericordia (4-6, 4-5 MAC) defense the rest of the game as the Devils fell at home to the Cougars, 6-3 in their home finale on Saturday afternoon.

Offensively, Ryon Thomas (Mattapoisett, Mass.) was 13-for-22 through for 138 yards through the air. Adrian Reese (Indianapolis, IN) was his top target as Reese had a career day with 73 yards on five catches followed by Michael DeSantis (South River, N.J.) who had three catches for 30 yards. Nayson Brown (Red Bank, N.J.) led the way for the Devils on the ground with nine carries for 48 yards while Kwanir Edwards, N.J. (Trenton, N.J.) had 27 yards on eight carries.

Defensively, the Devils were stout only allowing the one touchdown to the Misericordia offense. Christian Puntolillo (Wayne, N.J.) once again led the way with a career-day, totaling 16 tackles including nine solo tackles. Matt Heineman (Staten Island, N.Y.) totaled eight tackles with two tackles for loss and two quarterback hurries while Cole Weekley (Franklin, N.J.) totaled nine tackles.

The Devils won the toss and elected to take the ball first and put together an 11-play, 46-yard drive that was capped of with a Chris DiMedio (Cornnwall, N.Y.) field goal that gave the Devils the early 3-0 advantage. The Devils had three plays on the drive; Brown had a 16-yard run on his first carry, Thomas scrambled out for 16-yards on a 3rd and 10 from the Misericordia 49 and DeSantis had a 16-yard catch that got DiMedio in range for a 32-yard field goal.

Both teams exchanged punting drives and the Cougars were forced to punt again on their second drive that gave the Devils the ball at their own 33 with 4:05 left to go in the first quarter. Their drive went into the second quarter and the offense drove the ball all the way down to the one-yard line but the under center run that DeSantis scored on last week at Lebanon Valley, did not fool Misericordia and they stonewalled it on fourth and goal and forced the turnover on downs.

Multiple punts later, Misericordia got the ball back with 6:59 left in the second quarter. The team put together a 10-play, 84-yard drive that was capped off by a quarterback sneak from the one-yard line by T.J. Lattimore. Misericordia missed the extra point and only took a 6-3 lead.

That scoring drive proved to be enough for Misericordia however as the Cougars defense shut down the Devils offense for the remainder of the game. The FDU offense was only able to get to as close as their own 45-yard line and the game was closed out with the 6-3 win for Misericordia.
