Madison, N.J. (October 24) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team (12-13, 0-6 MAC Free) was defeated at home to the visiting MAC Freedom competitor Lebanon Valley (14-10, 5-1 MAC Free), 3-0 on Tuesday night.
Jada Everett (Hackensack, N.J.) led the way for the Devils in kills with seven while also recording a block and two digs.
Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, N.J.) had another double-digit dig game with 11 on the night.
Set 1: The Flying Dutchmen jumped quickly out to a 3-0 lead, but it was answered by the Devils who put three points of their own on the board with two kills from Everett and a kill from
Arianna Wood (Wayne, N.J.). A pair of points was once again answered with kills from Everett and Wood and the match repeated the first rally with LVC getting three points and FDU getting three points up to an 8-8 tie. A Lebanon Valley points was doubled by Fairleigh Dickinson and included a kill from
Lilli Nawrotzki (Flemington, N.J.) and gave the Devils a 10-9 lead. The Dutchmen however, zoned and went on a tear down the stretch, going on an 11-0 run for a 20-10 lead.
Vanessa Freeman (Piscataway, N.J.) halted that run with a kill but LVC scored five straight and took set one, 25-11.
Set 2: The Devils took an early 4-1 edge, but the Dutchmen put together a 9-1 run to take a 10-5 lead. FDU cut the lead to 11-9 including two kills from
Gabbie Hart (Cherry Hill, N.J.), but five unanswered points gave LVC the 16-9 lead. The two teams exchanged a few points before Lebanon Valley scored six straight to give themselves a comfortable 23-11 lead. The Devils did not make it comfortable for the Flying Dutchmen though, as they built a big run of 6-1 that included a kill by Everett and a service ace from
Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif.) cut the lead to 24-17. The come from behind win the set did not come however and LVC took set two, 25-17.
Set 3: Both teams fought back and forth in the early portion of the match up to a 7-6 Dutchmen lead before they pulled away with a 10-0 run that gave them a 17-6 advantage. Three unanswered Devils points hoped to be the spark that they needed but a 6-0 run by the Dutchmen pushed the lead to 23-9. FDU scored a pair of points before they on a kill from Hart and a service ace from Fruscione before Lebanon Valley closed the match out with two points and completed the sweep.
FDU-Florham wraps up their home contests with their second matchup of the season against Medgar Evers on Thursday, October 26 at 7:00 pm. The team will honor its two seniors before the match.
