Men's Soccer Collects 2-2 Tie Against Misericordia

Madison, NJ (October 18) - The FDU-Florham men's soccer team hosted Misericordia for a Wednesday evening MAC Freedom contest and fought the Cougars for a 2-2 tie.

In Wednesday evening MAC Freedom action, The Devils and Cougars were ready for the matchup as both teams started to fire shots at their opposing goalies. The Devils started the first half with a total of seven shots, compared to Misericordia's five shots.

The Devils first goal came within the first ten minutes, as it was the Trujillo brothers who had the connection. Graduate-student Oliver Trujillo (Bridgewater, NJ) fed his brother Diego Trujillo (Bridgewater, NJ) the ball, who then headed the ball past the goalie to give an early 1-0 lead.

Both defenses held strong as no other goals were scored the first half.

It was the Cougars who scored in the 59th minute to tie the game at 1-1. They then followed their first goal with a second, just nine minutes after, to go up 2-1.

The Devils felt the pressure as they were striking left and right to tie the score and recorded a total of five shots. Misericordia held the advantages in shots with 14 in the second half.

A break in the match came for the Devils, as Oliver Trujillo was awarded a penalty kick for a foul committed by Misericordia in the box. He lined up his shot and faked out the goalie to tie the game at 2-2, with 13 minutes to play.

FDU-Florham almost avoided the tie with another shot from first year Ferid Zaku (Wayne, NJ) as he sent the ball towards the goal but was just wide and to the left.

Both teams returned to their perspective campuses with a 2-2 tie in MAC Freedom play.

Anthony Petrucci (West Orange, NJ) was seen in goal for the Devils and collected eight saves in today's contest.

FDU-Florham's next match will be a 2:30pm MAC Freedom matchup at DeSales, on Saturday, October 21.
