Madison, NJ (October 10) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team (10-10, 0-4 MAC Free) dropped its MAC Freedom matchup on Tuesday night to DeSales (8-11, 3-1 MAC Free), 3-0.
Gabbie Hart (Cherry Hill, NJ) posted a team-high four blocks and two service aces to go along with nine kills.
Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif) notched her fourth double-digit kill match in the last six matches played with 11 on the night.
Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) and
Vanessa Freeman (Piscataway, NJ) each collected double-digit digs with 12 and 10 respectively.
Victoria Carrico (Mountainside, NJ) led the way in assists with 13, followed by
Gianna Buscarino (Centereach, NY), who recorded seven.
Set 1: It was the Devils who held on to the early leads at the beginning of the set. Hart, Reiter, Freeman and
Jada Everett (Hackensack, NJ) all posted kills up to an 8-6 lead for FDU. After that lead, DeSales exploded for an 11-0 run to give them a comfortable, 17-8 lead. The run was halted with a kill from Freeman that sparked a 5-1 run for FDU that cut into the lead, 18-13. The two teams exchanged blows up until a 20-15 score when the Bulldogs closed out set one with five straight points to give them the 25-15 first set victory.
Set 2: The Devils held the advantage again at the beginning of the set, holding small leads of 3-2, 7-5 and 9-8. DSU was able to score five unanswered to flip the script in their favor, 13-9. DeSales tried to hold of the Devils and were successful up until they had a 20-16 lead before Fairleigh Dickinson created a shift of there own with five unanswered points that included three kills from Reiter and a kill from
Arianna Wood (Wayne, NJ) and gave the Devils a 21-20 edge. The Bulldogs scored thrice that was answered by a pair of points that included another kill from Wood that nodded the set at 23. DeSales secured set two with a pair of points for a 25-23 win.
Set 3: It was a back-and-forth beginning of the set that saw a 3-3 stalemate before the Bulldogs five straight for an 8-3 advantage. They controlled the middle of the set, jumping out to leads of 14-6 and 19-9. After a 20-10 edge, Fairleigh Dickinson clawed its way back with a 7-1 run to cut the deficit to 21-17. Though the Devils inched their way closer, they would not keep the momentum and DeSales eventually held them at bay and took set three, 25-20 and completed the clean sweep.
FDU-Florham returns right back to Kindel Court on Thursday, October 10 for a 7pm non-conference matchup against CCNY.
