Madison, NJ (January 28) – The FDU-Florham women's basketball team hosted MAC Freedom opponent King's College (PA.) and fell by a 59-37 final on Saturday afternoon inside the Ferguson Recreation Center.
FDU-Florham dropped to 0-15 overall and to 0-11in MAC Freedom play, while King's improved to 6-14 overall and to 5-6 in the league.
The Devils were led by
Abigail Rodriguez (Woodbridge, NJ), who totaled 15 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.
Whitney Shyposh (Westfield, NJ) and
Destiny Knight (Philadelphia, PA) each added nine points. Shyposh tallied eight rebounds, while Knight registered one rebound.
Kathy Shepherd collected 17 points for King's on a 4-for-9 effort from three-point range.
Breena Costello added 10 points and
Gianna Dickson added 11 points to help secure the 59-37 win for the Monarchs.
In the opening half, Rodriguez and Shyposh accounted for FDU-Florham's four points, while Shepherd tallied 11 of 24 points for King's in the first half.
In a competitive second half of action, King's outscored FDU-Florham by just two points (35-33). The Devils shot at a 55.0-percent clip in the second half (11-for-20) as Rodriguez scored 13 of her 15 points over the final 20 minutes of play.
As a team, FDU-Florham shot 24.0-percent (12-for-50) from the floor, 15.8-percent (3-for-19) from three point range and 83.3-percent (10-for- 12) from the free throw line, while King's shot 34.4-percent (21-for-61) from the floor, 26.8 -percent (11-for-41) from three point range and 85.7-percent (6-for-7) from the free throw line.
King's scored 16 points in the paint, 16 points off FDU-Florham turnovers and 15 points off the bench.
FDU-Florham will travel No. 18 (WBCA) Stevens Institute of Technology for its next contest. Tip-off is set for 8pm on Wednesday, February 1.
