Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (September 11) – The FDU-Florham men's tennis team opened its fall season at the 2022 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Individual Championship. Day one took place on Saturday morning, but day two that was scheduled for Sunday was canceled due to the rain.
Junior
Matthew Emery (Howell, NJ) and sophomore
Karanveer Saini (Punjab, India) reached the semifinal round in their respective singles brackets. In the No. 3 singles bracket, Emery, who was seeded third, defeated Connor Frey of Wilkes, 6-0, 6-1 and Will Pollick of DeSales, 6-2, 6-2, while Saini defeated Cody Zheng of King's, 6-3, 6-3 and second-seeded Jacob Erb of Lebanon Valley, 6-2, 7-6 (4).
In the No. 1 singles bracket,
Joni Carasso (Buenos Aires, Argentina) earned a 6-4, 6-4 win over Nathan Redell of Lycoming before falling to top-seeded Andrew He of Stevens in straight sets.
Ronald Duval (Old Bridge, NJ) dropped his opening match to top-seeded Timmy Lau of Stevens, 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles bracket.
In the No. 4 singles bracket,
Jacob Mostoller (Mullica Hill, NJ) came from behind to defeat Lee Counu of Arcadia 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 before falling to top-seeded Max William Kanz, 6-0, 6-0. In the No. 5 singles bracket,
Kelvin Liwag (Marlboro, NJ) was edged by Simeon Smith of Stevenson, 6-2, 3-6, 11-9, in the first round. In the No. 7 singles bracket,
Quinn Carmody (Hingham, Mass.) earned a walkover win in the opening round before falling to Brian Ward of Lebanon Valley, 6-0, 2-6, 10-4 in the quarterfinals.
Duval and Emery reached the semifinal round in the No. 2 doubles bracket as the third seed after defeating the duo from Arcadia and York by duplicate 8-1 scores. In the No. 1 singles bracket, Carasso and Mostoller fell 8-5 to the duo from Alvernia and in the No. 3 doubles bracket Liwag and Saini defeated the duo from York, 8-3, before falling in the quarterfinal round.
The Devils will travel to Farmingdale State for a non-conference dual match on September 13 at 4:30 pm.
