Lopez Nets Game Winner For Women's Soccer in 1-0 Win Over CMSV

Madison, NJ (September 11) – FDU-Florham women's soccer sophomore Mia Lopez (Rockaway, NJ) scored her third game winner in as many contests as she lifted the Devils to a 1-0 victory over the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Sunday afternoon at Robert T. Shields Field.

With the win, the Devils are 5-0-0 on the year and are off to their best start in program history. Senior keeper Erica Blackburn (Marlboro, NJ) also registered another shutout as FDU-Florham extended its shutout streak to 447:16 (four plus matches) tying the 2010 squad for the longest shutout streak (four games) in program history.

Neither team had many looks at the net over the first 45 minutes of play, but in the second half FDU-Florham outshot Mount Saint Vincent, 11-2, and finally broke the scoreless match in the 86th minutes. Lopez took the ball off a turnover in the box and rocketed the ball into the upper left corner of the net for the 1-0 edge.

Prior to the goal, the Devils had a few good opportunities to score but came up just short. In the 80th minute, Francesca Escudero (Bridgewater, NJ) was awarded a free kick at the top of the box, but her shot sailed just over the crossbar and in the 84th minute a shot by Lopez trickled just to the right of the goal post.

Blackburn made a pair of saves for the Devils as she improved to 5-0-0 on the year with her third complete game shutout of the season. Mount Saint Vincent keeper Javiera Sanchez stopped the ball five times for the visitors.

FDU-Florham will begin a four match road trip on Wednesday, September 14 at Muhlenberg College beginning at 7:00 pm.
