Women's Lacrosse Picks Up 22-5 Senior Day Win Over Lycoming

Madison, NJ (April 9) – Powered by 11 points on five goals and six assists by junior Lizzy Escudero (Bridgewater, NJ), the FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team defeated Lycoming College, 22-5, on Saturday afternoon in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action on Robert T. Shields Field.
 
Prior to the start of today's game, the Devils (9-2, 3-0 MAC Freedom) honored their senior Paige Frye (Palmyra, Pa.) as well as fifth-year student-athletes Hannah Bhend (Landing, NJ) and Kayla Brunner (Manahawkin, NJ). Lycoming dropped to 5-7 overall and 1-3 in MAC Freedom play after today's contest.
 
Katie Walsh (Marlton, NJ) added five goals and two assists for seven points to go along with two ground balls, a caused turnover and four draw controls, while Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ) tallied four goals and one assist for five points as well as a trio of ground balls. Marissa Ross (Owings Mills, Md.) was once again dominant on draw controls as she pulled down 17 draws.
 
FDU outscored Lycoming by an 11-1 margin over the opening quarter and led 17-3 at halftime. In the first quarter alone, Escudero registered a total of five points with three goals and two assists, while Garcia, Ashton and Walsh all notched two goals apiece in the game opening run.
 
After the teams traded goals to begin the second, the Devils put together a 5-1 run for a 17-3 lead at the break. The final quarter saw Walsh score off a feed by Frye playing a man down and then Frye added her first goal of the game with 8:15 to play in the game off a pass by Escudero.
 
As a team, FDU outshot Lycoming by a 41-11 margin and went a perfect 10-for-10 in clearing attempts. The Devils also posted an 18-10 edge in ground balls and won 23 of 29 draw controls on the day.

In goal, Maddy Apap (Montgomery, NY) got the start and picked up the win with one save over the first 45 minutes of play. Jamie Kubach (Philadelphia, Pa.) played the final quarter and made three stops for the Devils. Lycoming goalkeeper Zoe Stauffer made 13 saves in the loss.
 
FDU will host Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday, April 13 in a rematch of last year's MAC Freedom Championship game on Robert T. Shields Field at 6:00 pm.
