Box Score Allentown, Pa. (April 6) – Powered by five goals from junior
Kylee Garcia (Branchburg, NJ), the FDU-Florham women's lacrosse defeated DeSales University, 21-2, in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) matchup on the road. The Devils entered today's game receiving votes in this IWLCA Division III National Poll.
In addition to Garcia's five goals, FDU-Florham (8-2, 2-0 MAC Freedom) received four goals from both
Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ) and
Katie Walsh (Marlton, NJ). Walsh ended her day with a total of seven points, while Ashton registered a game-high eight draw controls.
Lizzie Escudero (Bridgewater, NJ) chipped in with two goals and four assists for six points.
The Devils scored the first 17 goals of the game, led 12-0 after the first and by a 16-0 margin at the break. In the first quarter alone, Garcia and Walsh teamed up for six of FDU's 12 goals.
DeSales (4-7, 0-2 MAC Freedom) scored back-to-back goals in the third quarter on free position attempts before FDU posted the final four goals of the game over the final 15 minutes of play. In the fourth,
Marissa Ross (Owings Mills, Md.) scored twice, while Garcia and
Claudia Zappia (South Brunswick, NJ) both potted on goal apiece down the stretch.
As a team, FDU held a 38-5 advantage in shots and a 16-8 edge in ground balls. The Devils also won 19-of-25 draw controls and were a perfect 10-for-10 on draw controls.
Jamie Kubach (Philadelphia, Pa.) and
Maddy Apap (Montgomery, NY) split time in net for the Devils with Kubach picking up her seventh win of the season.
FDU will return to Madison for Alumni Day and Senior Day on Saturday, April 9 with a MAC Freedom matchup with Lycoming College at 1:00 pm on Robert T. Shields Field.
